What interior lights do you turn off? The knob on the left of the dashboard to low that lights up the front dash, IHU and the Abisko National Park lit 🔥 panels?
My MY 2023 doesn’t seem to have the knob. What I meant was Controls > Lights > Interior light intensity > off. It controls the topography panels as well as the other lighting in the car.

The dealer told me to keep the lights off until the buzzing is fixed by future software updates.

Oh well

Ok got it. My 2022 C40P8 Ultimate recharge will have to be tested out, but I absolutely adore the lights and it looks so friggin nice in the night - “Still of the Night”! Will never be turning it OFF - Nope!

Love the lights too. I hope the problem won’t affect you so you can keep the lights on.

So far no major buzzing issues on my end. I guarantee you my other half and kiddoes would have definitely complained to me if the buzzing was significant! 🙂

I'm on my 2nd MY 2023 XC40 Ultimate (switched due to 60mph+ vibrations). The first had the buzzing Topgraphy inlay (confirmed by turning interior lights off). The replacement does not have the buzzing (so far anyway). I guess either Volvo have recently found a h/w fix (s/w is on 2.5 which was also on the car I sent back) or not all cars suffer the problem.

Just picked up my 23 C40 ultimate last week and it has the buzzing only if interior lights are set to on. I test drove another New C40 they had on the lot and it also had the buzzing. My sales person put in a ticket for me as before I purchased the car even service agreed they can hear the buzz and it should NOT be doing it.

the buzzing comes from the topography panel leds and not the speakers like some are saying. If I put my ear to any of the topography panel I can clearly hear the buzz

I took delivery of a MY23 C40 7 days ago, running v2.5. There is no dimmer control on the lower left of the control panel. That extra hardware apparently was not cost effective and was eliminated from the USA versions. The only adjustment I have for the interior lighting is in SETTINGS. I have zero buzz in the sound system at any intensity level. The topographic panels are delightful design elements.

I spoke too soon, I could hear the buzzing on my replacement MY 2023 XC40 this morning. Confirmed by toggling interior lighting from the centre display.

Grates a bit that I'm paying Care by Volvo additional subscription for the Ultimate to then disable at last one of those features. Or does the buzzing occur on Core/Plus trim too? I didn't hear it in my Plus, but that was a MY 2022 which I guess preceded the topgraphy inlay?

Could be caused by several things but, in the olden analog days, the most obvious would have been a poorly grounded power supply or a power supply wire passing around a speaker wire. Those were the days.

Just disable them for the time being. It’s not a huge deal. They will have to fix it eventually with all the recorded service tickets about it. We should be greatful we can at least stop the buzzing by selecting off in the lighting option for the time being.

Agree, but in the digital domain I suspect this is just a noisy PWM dimmer unit. Doesn't stop it being picked up and amplified by the media unit, but raising the volume control didn't make the buzzing any louder so suspecting it's coming from the dimmer itself. It can't be difficult to fix if quality parts are available (same position as my gripe with the 60mph+ vibrations).

If I'd bought the car outright I probably wouldn't have a problem with just disabling and waiting for a fix. However (and I was saying this today to the Volvo salesman), moving to a monthly subscription model (which I did so I wasn't stuck with early gen Volvo models) has made me much more indignant about faults/issues/missing functionality (one of which is a deal breaker for me, but the others not so much).

Absolutely agree about the defeat option being available though, would be nice if I could switch off dark mode too as it's far too sensitive and slow to switch between modes.

I'd say it's definitely a dimmer issue, and has nothing to do with speakers. When you open the door in the dark and the panels go to full power / zero dimming, the buzz goes away instantly.

I can live with it for the time being since I'm always listening to music and that drowns it out. But it doesn't seem like it would be a hard fix, but probably not cheap for Volvo, depending on how much you have to disassemble to get to the dimmer unit(s) 🤷🏼‍♂️ They could fix it in software by running them on full power all the time, but it's way too bright - I'd have to turn them off at night 😕

I just picked up my 2023 C40 Ultimate last week and had the buzzing, so I turned off the interior lights.

I'm not sure what I did, but I briefly managed to get the buzzing to stop with the lights on for a bit. I was checking to make sure all of the doors were shut properly and after I had opened and shut the third door (1 passenger rear, 2 passenger front, 3 driver rear) , I saw some flashing lights inside the car (there might have been a flash of orange). When I opened the the driver side front door, got in the driver's seat and closed the door, I noticed that the interior lights were turned on, but there was no buzzing. When I checked the control setting, it still said that the interior lights were off. I tried switching to low and high, and everything worked as expected with no buzzing.

Later, after resetting the display, the buzzing returned, and I haven't figure out how to reproduce what I did before yet.

When you open the door the lights come on on full power with no dimming, and in that mode there is no buzzing. But it shouldn't respond to changing the intensity at that point, so that's weird 🤔

I took my 2023 C40 Ultimate into the local dealer today and upon dropping off the vehicle the service advisor heard the buzzing and even knew of the issue existing in other vehicles. He even stated that Volvo did not have a fix for the buzzing but that he would submit a ticket. I thought, "Wow, this guy is impressive". However, when I returned to pick up the vehicle the exact same advisor informed me that the technician and shop foreman had informed him that my car didn't have the buzzing and that my car was "operating as intended". I then asked the advisor "You heard it when I came in, correct?" and his response was that the shop foreman has final say in what repairs are made to the vehicle not him.

Next closest dealer is 125 miles away.... may give them a chance. Frustrating and a little disappointing.
