Same issue, same rock story form Volvo repair center. $1200 for the replacement. Is anyone find out good ways to deal with?
Not yet but I'm planning to get a detailed assessment on this damage from the third party to determine the true cause and document it. I would imagine it takes longer than a day for the roof to crack from the impact of rock.

Hi, I'm the UK owner of an XC40 T5 Recharge PHEV, which is now ten months old and with just over 6,000 miles on the clock. Yesterday we got back in the car after a visit to the local leisure centre and my wife pointed out a crack right across the front sunroof (she sits in the back when we go swimming to keep our 2 year old grandson company). The crack wasn't there on the outward journey and the car was parked in the large car park, well away from any buildings, trees or other overhangs, on a warm but not hot day. Took it straight to my dealer and they have said it must be due to impact damage and have quoted me £818 to replace. But if I run my finger over the point where they say there has been impact you can't feel anything, so I think it's a stress fracture within the glass and should be replaced under warranty and I have told them this. Issue currently unresolved but thanks for all previous posts - they can only help my case
I have the same issue. Front panel of the sunroof has cracked in two places and my XC40 is just over 9 months old. The dealer said it was impact damage, but there is no sign of stone chips or anything similar. I have asked Volvo for reference photographs of impact damage so we can compare. Did you get them to replace yours under warranty?

This just happened to me today in my 2023 C40. I was just stopped at a light. No traffic or pedestrians around, and my rear passenger window just completely spider webbed. Not sure what the cause could have been, other than my car being in the sun for a few hours and then having the AC on for about 5 minutes

We've just had this happen on our XC40 recharge, and the dealer told my wife it was from an impact. Not quite sure about the physics they claim for a stone to create the crack, and all my wife heard was a loud crack that scared her.
Has anyone had success with claiming this on warranty??
It is definitely a defect, although I've mostly seen it happen with more curved glass panels.

If there was an impact, the impact location SHOULD be visible as a small chip etc. I know we had a stone smack somewhere on the car the other day (sounded like the windscreen but it wasn't) and when I was washing it, I noticed a chip in the paint just on the front edge of the black painted steel roof section. I reckon that a stone could hit anywhere on the roof, so I don't think it's impossible that a stone ended up hitting the glass roof. Hard to prove either way though unless you can find the point of impact. Hopefully your car insurance has glass coverage!
