Driving car after a day of it sitting in the rain (and some sideways rain). A little light grind at slow speed.

I did one 35 P brake to clean them (roads were so slick this deployed the abs). After that back to zero sounds.

Heck no I would be taking it to the dealer as that is crazy to have to keep doing that.

Was only a little grind that went away and was back to perfect. Not sticking like your did !!!

This happened to my wife for this first time this morning on her car with about 8000 miles on it. Sat for a couple of days after a lot of rain. Noise went away after a couple of firm brakes. Also, this happens every once in a while with my Tesla too. Don’t plan on escaping the issue by changing to another EV brand, especially one that automatically engages the parking brake, like both Volvo and Tesla do.

Guess what.....

Bad sticking today and grinding and bad grinding while drive and worse when braking. Going to arrange to bring car in and have them put my pads on with new rotors and hopefully that is it.

Biggest issue is i they tell me I am on my own do I do it or just file for them to buy it back. At any other time I would have them buy it back, but car choices suck right now. And I hate the thought of going back to ICE. I took my wife's T5 to work today and what a miserable experience compared to the P8. There is a Gray on Red GV70 Sport near me I am going to look at this weekend, but not really enthusiastic about it.

Once you go ev it is really hard to go back :(

If it were me I would swap for another P8 but we have had very different experiences in the last 5 months :)

Been thinking about it, but that is likely a few months wait as well. I do have a C40 on order.

I did a quick wash as with all the rain last week there were leaves and debris all over the lower part of car and in wheel wells. Ironically I did not wash wheels or tires, just hosed the wheel wells. I washed it Saturday 2pm and on Monday 5:30am it was seized up bad enough to damage the pads and cause serious grinding again. As much as I want to swap the car, I could get one that has more than just brake issues.

The other day I went to the dealership and had a little chat. I asked them specifically about the breaks problems and they told me they had only one XC40 recharge with break problems. The owner was honest to say that he washed the car day before and let it sit. Anyway, they suggested once i washed the car at home to go for a quick drive to dry the rotors. Defensively something to be careful about.

And Volvo suggested that to me to drive it as well and I said where does it say that in owners manual? Also when it is raining and I come home and park the car how do I prevent it from happening. Volvo is in denial right now. They have an issue and they need to fix it. Simple ceramic pads would resolve this. I should know soon enough.

Here you go, watch how the hood dips badly just before the clunk to show how seized up the brakes were. If you listen toward the end of the video you can hear the grinding especially as I brake.

Ugh... That is terrible.
All I can say at that point is - "Keep driving."
Volvo seems to not have solution yet otherwise they will quietly fix your problem. Ceramic pads are defensively the answer and I would prefer to have Acebono all around.
Can you please look at your break pads and read the part number. Should be visible toghether with the made in country. Mine says Italy and Part# 32287440. I wander if there is a difference.

Here is a better view, and watch as the rear lifts up from the front motor trying to propel the car. Less than 48 hours and they seized up this bad.

I drop car in the AM. Gave Volvo 3 choices

  • Keep replacing pads and rotors every time (I am not a fan of this)
  • Support my ceramic pads to prove this fixes the issue until they can release and updated pad
  • buy the car back (at which point I cancel my C40 order as well as the XC40 P8 order I placed today for one at the port) and I move on to probably the Audi Q4.

I would hate to go back to gas, but if I have to I have to. Trying to see a GV70 this weekend, they have a gray/red inbound that looks appealing.

I wish Akebono made pads for this, but they do not. The work order shows the pads they installed are 32287446 which is the "Pad Kit".

Same thing happened to me -- once, about 1,000 miles ago. I can relate -- no fun. I've since had a few instances of rain and sitting a day or so, but no reoccurrence. Just a little stickiness at first go, but no wupping.

For science I wish you would get a P8! Just so we can see if it sticks.

Mmm would they be willing to let you have the demo for a week. Point out how little you drive in miles. Then you could wash it (I know it’s not your baby but for science) see it the loaner gets seized up. If it does …

That would be great info. If not it would hint your P8 is just as I think cursed :p

Good luck which ever path you choose
