There is a smaller sports fob you can get. Not sure how water proof. There is an emergency manual key inside your key phob.

What do you do with wallet. Phone. Etc when you surf?

Thanks for the reply. We use manual keys to lock and unlock the doors when in the water and tie them to an elastic string in our board shorts. Surfing with a fob is not ideal, especially if it requires a waterproof pouch. We leave the main key in the car. For our Tesla, we just shut off the phone or disable Bluetooth and use their waterproof fob card to lock and unlock the doors. Is it possible to make a manual key from the emergency key? But what happens when I leave the remote key in the car? Will the doors even lock?

 

Does anyone know if it’s possible to have a locksmith make a copy of the emergency key blade?

 

The sports key is wonderful. So lightweight and small compared to the master key. Can’t imagine a metal/manual key would be less intrusive. I just wish the battery lasted longer. Mine made it 3 years.

 

3 years is bad?

Is this one of the ones you have to replace the whole unit when battery goes or just a dealership visit?

Was there any indication the battery was going?

 

So you have to buy a new one each time?

How nice would it be if the sports key supported wireless charging. Then it could stay sealed and not need replaced…

 

Alas charged batteries do not last for ever. I wonder if they might last less than the 3 years especially at the small size to fit in a sports fob.

How about they just make the key phob be openable so you can change the battery!!

Or ….

Make the power supply for the key phob be external. You can store the power source in a hidden spot in your car. The power source cannot open the car it needs the phob itself. Press key phob against or is for the power supply and it becomes an active key.

Power could be inductive or conductive. Either could even be built into the car door…

Or … we could just buy a key phob every 3 years to go with our very nice cars
