LED Headlights with DRL, AHB and ABL

There's no mention of ABL or DRL, or even Pixel headlights (even though they are present).

Dealership called me today and confirmed that Pixel Headlight have been removed due to chip shortage. They are waiting on confirmation of price reduction before informing customer (in Australia at least). The longer I wait, the more I wonder if I should pull my order and put a deposit on something else.

The concern is any car can get hit with this. Audi pulled 360 cameras from Q4 while it still looks like the cams are there due to chip issues. Maybe becasue of where I live, but pixel lights are a meh for me. The XC40 turning lights to me a great with auto high beams.

It looks like in my case, our C40 was delivered with the Pixel Headlights, but without the Active Bendling Lights. The C40 only comes in one trim in the USA for 2022 (Ultimate), so we were expecting that on delivery. Kind of a bummer. I would have much rather had the ABL without the Pixel headlights, since we can't use them yet anyways.

I was not aware of pixel lights with active bending. I also think the standard XC40 bending lights are some of the best headlights I have had on any car I have owned.

Agreed, also how the fog light comes on in the direction you are turning. The bending lights are cool.

Just "asked" the question on Volvo USA website "chat' feature about the availability of the pixel LED lights on the 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge....Answer received was a disappointing, " We do not have current information on any 2023 Volvo models". When pressed for clarity, "Yvette" said she was sorry, appreciated my interest but had no information to share about any 2023 Volvo models. Really???

Volvo (USA) hasn't made any official announcements regarding 2023 models and yet you're expecting one to come from some lowly online chat agent?

Actually, YES I do. If Volvo is supplying 2023 vehicles to reviewers why do that claim they DO NOT KNOW the 2023 features or can tell us common folks about their vehicles? If your "chat" feature doesn't provide the latest model info...why have it? Don't need/want "historical" info....rant mode off now...just frustrating.

This seams unreasonable. I design products for my company and know nothing about 2023. Why would they give chat reps potentially volatile specs about a car that probably is still in development? Seams like a recipe for disaster.

I would agree with you IF the 2023 models (in this case C40 and XC40 Recharge models) were not already released for review....

They are just completing manufacture of the 2022 XC40 (mine was or is just being built). Doubtless a run of 2023 models was manufactured for press vehicles, with the main run beginning in the coming months - Australian media reports the new model being available mid-year, while the UK says December, so when North America gets them is anyone’s guess. Whoever makes the headlamp units for Volvo is switching from the old to new design, and if there’s a shortage of pixel matrix modules, no doubt they won’t promise what they can’t deliver. Let’s remember that these shortages are temporary, but the potential for price increases is an issue, which is why I pulled the trigger on this year’s model. If I was younger and doing a lot of night drives through the mountains around here, pixel lights would be a big plus but not a deal breaker. I remember the lights on my first car - better than kerosene lanterns but not a lot…

All I can say is that I've seen numerous YouTube video reviews purporting to be 2023 Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge models. I know my Norwegian cousin just sold his 2021 XC40 Recharge to order the new 2023 model...as he said, the original LED headlights were not adequate to detect moose far enough ahead...yes, he lives in rural Norway. That makes me think the pixel LED headlamps are worth waiting for. I too have had previous vehicles with headlights seemingly no stronger than handheld BIC lighters and don't want to experience that again ;-) I understand too that current supply issues might make that a bit of a wait...which I can thankfully do as we're not the immediate market to replace our '15 V60 Cross Country.

My xc40 lights are the best I have ever owned or seen. With this logic, no car could would be adequate enough before the pixel headlights.

I think ABL has been dropped as well. Only the dog lights have cornering.

The sticker on our January, 2022 built C40 does indicate Pixel headlights with ABL. I can tell the light turns with the steering wheel, though it's more subtle compared to the ABL on the Mazda CX-5 we traded in for the C40.

It is not subtile on my xc40, it's really obvious. Fog light come on too during turns.

I was just saying it seemed more subtle compared to the CX-5. I definitely see the light turning on the C40, but to me the light turning was more obvious in the Mazda.

For anyone missing out on the Pixel lights, that is a bummer but it’s really one of the least sexy headlining features on a car. I’d have traded them for a heads up display or some more range without question
