How cold/warm it is can be quite subjective. Does it warm up ? Yes. Assuming same level settings, is it as warm as the Subaru ? No. Perhaps it's the seat material that doesn't transfer heat as much to the touch when compared to a leather seat ? The Subaru leather seats on the skin is way too hot for me, so I personally prefer the seat material of the P8 -- it's more gentle to the touch :)

That’s very true. For some comfort is enough warmth to enjoy the ride, could be just warm, for others hot enough to keep a pizza warm.

I'm prone to migraine when there's hot or heavy air blowing my direction, so for me, heated Seats is a great solution to my issue. I must say the Subaru leather seats at Level 3 is like "sizzling" to the touch -- In fact, so that i don't feel a burning stink on my skin, I used to have a beach towel over it - that way, I can still enjoy the super warm without feeling like I'm burning my skin. With the P8, I no longer have to deal with the towel - so it's a big plus for me.

The con of the P8 material though --> It's like a dog hair magnet ! It takes me much longer to vacuum the hair. So I'd resorted to vacuuming EVERY single week to make it a little bearable. Where else with complete leather seat surface, one go-around of the vacuum it's all done !

Same here. I suffer from bad migraines (much better after I found Emgality) so keeping a nice air temperature is a big deal. Heated seats in New England are a must.

Let us know how you go. Our driver’s seat heat didn’t work at all (from what we could tell). Took in to dealer and they confirmed this and replaced the seat heater pad(s). They said they checked and it’s now working, however it’s summer here in AUS (doesn’t feel like it today) so we haven’t tried it since they did the repair. The passenger seat was getting plenty hot, as was the steering wheel, when we were using the car in colder weather.

Thats good to know that they acknowledged and fixed it.

Have you turned on Range Optimizer? I notice my seats are noticeably less intense when that is turned on.

No Range Optimizer is off. we made sure to ensure we are not imagining things with the not so warm seats and tested it. no dice.

I put Orvis Seat Covers on both the front and the back. Yellow Lab hair is tough to get off!

Awesome pic. Looks like the dog is dressed to be eco friendly as well!!! Huzzah :)

I am going to refrain from showing my dog the pic. She is “happy” with the rear area but always wants to get in the front. She finds out your dog is doing it … I will never hear the last of it :)

Is there a way to turn off the Passenger Side Air Bags on the XC40? I would worry about having the dog up front with that active.

UPDATE:
Got word from dealer that Heated seat issue was simply a settings error. they changed the computer settings and upped the temperature. Car is still with them for another issue (Knocking sound from left front suspension/wheel -not sure, only while turning left). Hoping to get it back tomorrow and will test out the seats and update. He said it was an extremely simple fix to correct the temp settings. so if anyone here has the same problem do ask your dealer to fix it.

Interesting. This leads one to think all the dealers who have told folks it is what it is … did not know how to fix it or that there are settings?

We got the car back last week and drove around a bit last few days with Range Optimizer off and heated seats on to max. I notice a slight improvement but it is only slight. like on an hour drive i leave the setting at High and I would absolutely forget that it is on. the seat is slightly warmer than normal but no more. compared tot he steering wheel which within a couple of minutes i have to reduce from high to low.
I don't know if i should go back to dealer or if this is the best the car can do or is it due to the non-traditional leather seat surfaces in the XC40.

it is definitely no where close to what i have had on my previous cars. should i just lower my expectation?

I think the dealer can make a setting change to make them warmer.
