Unrelated to above specific discussions but regarding similar subject matter:

My 22 Volvo C40 with 18,500 mi. displayed following messages when I tried to back out of driveway this morning:

Propulsion System Service Required
Slow down--The Vehicle will reduce speed--Propulsion System Failure

When I first tried to back it up it jerked and jumped. Same when I tried to move it forward. A couple hours later, It moved without jerking but I only went a couple feet backwards and forwards. Updated to most recent software about a month ago. Have not previously experienced any similar problem.

My questions: Should I have it towed to the dealer or risk driving it assuming it will drive at this point? Dealer about 20 miles away. Is there something else I can do to fix the issue without taking to dealer? What has anyone else encountering this same issue done to rectify it?

If it were me, I would have the dealer tow it in as I wouldn't want to get stuck on the side of the road somewhere. Hope whatever it is can be resolved quickly.
