Some additional info:

• The trunk hatch open button works.
• The trunk hatch close buttons work.
• The fob open trunk hatch button works.
• The app properly recognizes the car is either locked or unlocked after I manually use the physical key to lock or unlock the driver door.
• When I try to unlock the car via the app the error message says the car cannot unlock the car while the car is in use (it of course is not in use, it is in park with all doors locked and no one inside).

 

Is this a known issue with a known solution? I've tried rebooting the infotainment system. I have not tried a factory reset but will if that's a known way to fix this issue. Last resort is I drive it to the dealer.

You could try soft-rebooting the TCAM (module that controls all comms/modem/keyfobs/GPS/etc): Hold the FRONT DEFROST button down for 20 seconds, until red SOS light above starts flashing, then wait until flashing stops.

Failing that, you could try a HARD RESET of the TCAM (procedure here: (10) TCAM Reset Process for the C40 - "SOS / eCall Service required" error recovery | Volvo XC40 Forum)

Failing that, drive to dealer.

 

My 3.7 OTA update also failed in my '23 XC40 Recharge and I had all sorts of issues between the app and the car at first. Besides the reset procedure described above, you may also want to wait it out. My app issues relating to the car status, climate control, and locking all resolved themselves after 24 hours. I was however still required to visit the dealership to complete the update because when an OTA fails, it prevents further updating.

 

Updated my 2023 XC40 Recharge yesterday with no issue. Good luck.

 

Presumably you've tried a different/spare key fob, and conformed the key fob battery isn't dead? I'd say the fob is working correctly if you're able to drive the car without putting it in the special spot inside the centre console storage bin, but just thought it worth confirming.

Yes, this issue has happened to several owners including me a few years ago.

One solution is to hard reset the vehicle by temporarily disconnecting both the 12v supply and the BuB (TCAM backup battery) for a few minutes.
A sure method to disconnect the 12v is to remove the negative lead to the battery.

If this sounds too difficult to do yourself, just bring it in to get serviced.

 

Thank you all for the replies. As it turns out just waiting it out, as briantw42 suggested, was enough to get things working again (which is absurd but welcome to 2025 I guess). The fact that the physical buttons didn't respond had me scratching my head the most. Oh well.

 

I had the dealer do it. So far, a few no rear view camera messages. One black screen, that a restart cured. I am reminded of the British comedy series "The IT Crowd". They hooked up a reel-to-reel tape recorder to their tech support phone line: "Hello, tech support . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Have you tried turning it off and back on again?" click.

 

I just got 3.7.0 update from 3.3.16. This thread made me cautious and so I removed all of my person possessions befor the update 😭. Thankfully it went fine.

Oh gee. I have the same 2022 and need to update as well. I now ONLY do updates after a few weeks have passed.. and when I know I can do without the car for a few days. Mostly they work well.. but two updates previously bricked the car.. no access...no drive..nothing..and both timea needed a flat bed to the dealer... I expect the worst and cross fingers.

But most go well. They had to replace modules both times... i guess the good thing is those modules should be good for a few more years... or until late Dec when the warranty runs out. Glad yours settled in with time. Tick took
