I was unware that this was even an award, but it adds to the growing list of accolades that the XC40 has been collecting since release. This recognition is voted on entirely by female automotive journalists with 34 jurors from 27 different countries. https://www.gulf-times.com/story/619032/Volvo-XC40-claims-2018-Women-s-World-Car-of-the-Ye

Women gravitate towards SUV's and Crossovers more than most people think to the point that Lamborghini has been seeing success because of it. I'm not surprised.
Women represent a huge buying power in today's market and they do seem to prefer higher riding vehicles. Safety and design are huge factors in their decision process and the XC40 has both in spades.
Just for comparisons sake I wanted to share who the runner ups were. The final 6 not including the XC40 were the BMW X2, Jaguar E-Pace, Jaguar I-Pace, Peugeot 508 and the Porsche Cayenne. Top three came down to The XC40 and Jaguar. The 2017 Winners - Womens World Car of the Year

great to see the industry pay more attention to women because they've been left out quite a bit
now even brands like Lamborghini that had maybe 1% of its customer base as women are seeing that cross over into the double digits with the new Urus
