XC40 recharge vs the Jaguar I pace

So I’m in the market for an EV, and looking to downsize from a full SUV bc the kids are older and don’t need strollers anymore.

was looking at mainly the Jaguar I Pace and Mustang Mach E. But a friend told me about the xc40 recharge and it seems like a great value. I know it’s a subcompact and in a different class, but I’m comparing EVs. It’s a has great acceleration and a good size. Was wondering if any had a chance to test drive these cars? And compare. They are all hard to find!

thanks for any help!

Build the iPace to match the XC40 and see what you get. I did it and it was over US$90k. I’ve been driving Volvos for some time, and absolutely love the Recharge. There are some software glitches, but those have not taken aaay from the drive and comfort.

Maybe the price of the I pace has dropped? When I spec it out it comes out or about $76k. With the federal tax rebate about 69k

And when I spec out the XC40 recharge is comes out to $60k with the tax rebate $53k

So a difference of $16k. That’s a lot. I should look at the recharge more closely.

Another option to consider.

I considered a Jaguar I Pace instead of a XC 40. But jaguars are not really reliable and have a bad reputation for repairs and resale.

But I went through and tried the jag.

During the test drive I could not make my android phone connect to the jaguar. The salesman said It happens. So end of the line for Jaguar.

Bought a XC40 and happy so far. Have no complains nor bugs in the car. Size is perfect for a city car for a couple.

Today I see Ipaces for resale and they just dont sell !

Can hardly find i paces to test drive! Seems like some sit forever and other get snapped up quickly. There was one that came available locally last weekend, sold in a day. Then another 100 miles away. Sold in two days. Others are sitting there forever.

Called around to local dealers. No one has one in stock. From what I’ve read online it’s a great car, just not efficient and only 250 miles of range. Both of those aren’t deal breakers for me. The reliability is a concern.
I had an Ipace until recently getting the C40. The Ipace is not a comparable vehicle to the C40. It cost substantially more because it has a lot more to it than the C40. It was designed and benchmarked to surpass Tesla model X (no model 3 or y at the time). It is substantially more complex and robust. The Ipace is not a comp in comparison to the C40. Volvo has not fully committed to a ground up EV and applied the resources (neither has Jag, but the Ipace was designed from the ground up).

I heard the iPace range was not great - what was your experience? I have the XC40 Recharge and love the way it drives…putting aside the mess called Google AAOS (which may finally be fixed in April - LTE/GPS issues, etc).

The Ipace had great range (no less than 220 in NE winters with preheating and close to 270 on warmer days). Most of the info is online and doesn't adapt with updates and is not standard. For example there are different ways to measure real world mileage EPA vs. Euro. What is considered proper loaded weight, speed, tire pressure, weather, etc. The Ipace has many many levels of adjustments and settings that very few ever get into. You can set tire pressure for no load or full load. This will change range and also handling/traction. I like the C40 and had no hiccups with the Google interface. They have promised Android Auto and Carplay, not here yet. I don't see a major problem with that, especially when other companies charge $10k for autonomous driving that has not come available.

I prefer the C40 over JLR any day
Back in 06 I bought a brand new s-type r. I made it to 28k mi and it fell apart. The coolant tank was being replaced monthly over the summer (in phx) I always had gear box faults and dsc faults. The dealer bought it back, I went to a an 08 Range SC and that made it to 20k mi before I lost the air suspension and had transmission issues. Took them 3 hours to get it out our garage bc it dropped and couldn’t be moved. Dealing with the 2 dealers in Scottsdale was a nightmare to say the least. I was always shuttled to hertz and put in a Sentra for weeks on ends. I gave up and traded it for a ‘11 4runner and never been happier, until my C40. In fact we sold the MYP and kept the 4Runner.
when I was dealing with them their go to response was: our clientele only drives these for a year maybe two before getting a new one…so we don’t run into these problems often. They were just all around unpleasant and some of it had to do with me being 19-23 at the time and not being really able to stand up for myself in the situation 😬 but I’ve learned.
I thought maybe things would be better 15 years later but no, my neighbors iPace is constantly being taken away on a flat bed. And google uses them here in tempe for the beta self driving prog and there’s always one with its flashers on on the side of the road.
