Glad to see that more hybrids are coming to market from Volvo because right now they're in high demand and have been since the mid 2010's.
IMO, Volvo should have launched all its new products as hybrids from the start and 6 months later offer the gasoline engine versions.

These are coming a lot more quickly than I expected and should bring a fresh set of buyers to Volvo's door. Hybrid serve as stepping stone towards fully electric models and by 2020 we are going to see the number of them on the market increase twofold. With what we have seen in preview from their Polestar sub brand, Volvo's been hard at work with r&d.

Volvo already has a number of PHEV models in their lineup, and this rapid expansion is something they have to do to remain competitive. We've already heard the aggressive electrification plans from rival automakers, and you risk losing market share by being late to the party. With the sales they have seen for the XC40, I think they realize the huge opportunity that a hybrid variant is.

I love what they're doing when it comes to Polestar but most people I know that are familiar with Volvo, have no idea Polestar exists.
So far its only enthusiasts, which make up a small number of the overall Volvo buyers out there. Polestar needs to become a house hold name.

Performance has never really been a focal point for Volvo buyers, but we are seeing that's starting to shift with their newer models. Their upcoming electric sub brand should do a lot to demonstrate that you don't have to sacrifice performance in order to build a safe car.
