XC40 on Tesla magic dock Superchargers

So today on a road trip I charged at three different Tesla superchargers equipped with the new magic dock in Fredonia, Batavia, and Verona. Every single one worked perfectly. I consistently got 145kw at 15-20% soc. Zero issues. I can't tell you the last time I went to an evgo or EA station and didn't have at least one issue. My first charging stop of the day was at an evgo and the first charger only gave me 80kw (I was at 19% soc). The second charger had a broken handle. The third one finally gave me 120kw.
I can totally see why ppl say Tesla charging is the benchmark. Yes it's a little more expensive than Evgo or EA, but I'm willing to pay that when it gives me the peace of mind that the charging session is just going to work.

Anyone else had a chance to try one of the few compatible superchargers? If so how was your experience?

I camp all summer near the Batavia site (about 15 miles) and will likely take a road trip just for a trial. The XC40 does hate the charge port door on the correct side for supercharger. My Kia EV6 is on the passenger side which makes backing into Tesla sites problematic. Thanks for your reporting, gives me some confidence.
Certainly won’t mind when they open up more, but in the EV capital of the world (Bay Area CA) there’s a total of … zero. Two in California in total - one near Sacramento one near Santa Cruz. Neither locations I’m likely to hit on the way to anywhere. :) Hopefully that changes soon.
So I finished the drive to Massachusetts and to kind of reiterate what I was talking about, I stopped at 2 additional EA stations today. The first station at the auburn mall went like this: stations 1-3 had messages that they were being derated for maintenance. Stations 5 and 6 would only give me 40kw at 20% soc. Station 4 gave me 80kw so I resigned myself to wait. I talked to an ev6 driver who was using station 4 before me and he said he never got above 80kw either. Interestingly, there was also two EVGo stations in the same parking lot. I tried the one unoccupied station but quickly realized it was an older 50kw station so abandoned that pretty quickly. Plug and charge worked perfectly though.

My second stop was at the EA station at Dartmouth mall. Station 1 wouldn't initiate a charge. App just hung and it timed out. Station 3 was frozen saying idle time of 666 minutes. Station 4 thankfully worked and I got 108kw out of it.
Plug and charge worked perfectly though.
I didn't think the xc40 supported plug and charge, and if it did, it would work with EA. What are you calling "plug and charge"?

Btw there's a similar thread here...
Sry, I meant plug and charge on evgo. I had meant You are correct though EA does not support that.

Sry, I meant plug and charge on the evgo charger in the same lot. You are correct though EA does not support that. Sorry for the confusion.

Interesting to hear EA is so bad out east. In California EA seems usually pretty good - lots of higher wattage chargers and maybe one is out of service.
I drove from Michigan to Florida and every single EA at Walmart was giving me amazing numbers from the very start.

I did however end up getting stuck in my way back when all but 1 went down at a Sam's Club, and even then, that one only gave out 8kw. I caused a huge lineup but I had no where else to go on an entire day's journey.
Yea for sure there are times when they work flawlessly. Case in point, I charged at a brand new EA station in Hyannis, MA a couple days ago, and it just worked. I randomly picked one of the 150kw stations and plugged in, started charging using the app, and got a steady 140kw at 18% soc.

I think my point though was while you can have good charging sessions with EA, EVGo, etc, it's more the exception and not the norm. Teslas in my very limited experience, but backed up by other I've talked to and watching major EV YouTubers like Kyle from out of spec, show Tesla is the opposite and much more reliable.

I'm driving back to Ohio starting tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. I think I'm going to be hitting some different charging stations on the way back due to my itinerary.
