For those who currently have an XC40 on order, or are considering doing so, Volvo announced yesterday that they will be introducing a new engine option. You can now order the XC40 with a turbocharged 1.5l engine, which is the brands first ever 3 cylinder. It produces 154hp and 195lb-ft of torque and will be paired to a 6 speed manual for now. An 8 speed automatic is to be offered at a later date. It has an estimated fuel economy of 38mpg in the US and will start at $35,235.

This kind of setup was very common back in the 80's and 90's, and we're only discontinued due to their low power and high vibration. This configuration has proven to be very capable in both the new i8 and Ford Focus.
