Wheel Vibrations at Higher Speeds / Acceleration

Good Afternoon!

I am curious if any of you have experienced vibrations at between 60-65 mph that can be felt in the vehicle and steering wheel? I also get vibrations during faster than normal accelerations from a dead stop or while still moving. I have taken this in to be evaluated. However, their solution was to floor it to 70mph+ on a busy road (35mph Speed Limit zone) and say that they could barely feel anything. They went on the blame some mud in my rim and very begrudgingly agreed to rebalance my tires. It did next to nothing. I went home and checked the tire pressures. They were off still. I resolved that issue, and although the vibrations are not as bad, they still exist. My 2014 Chevy Volt rides smoother at these speeds and acceleration. Thoughts?

New to the forum! Technically not an owner (I'm a newly minted Toyota man), but my mom just took delivery of an XC40 Recharge Ultimate, and taking it onto the highway for the first time to take it to the detailer, I noticed the vibration right away around 105 km/h. Didn't think much of it then, but just happened to stumble upon this thread. Will be following closely for updates!

That's not good!
Can we trust DisneyDad's dealer?
Is there a lag time on public TSBs?
New XC40 owner here with ~500km. Just today I noticed high frequency vibration when driving on the freeway at 110km/hr. The vibration is not speed sensitive, and not related to motor output. I pretty sure it's not the driveshafts which would be a low frequency vibration. It's a high frequency vibration which feels like a suspension harmonic, but could just as likely be the tyres. It's almost exactly the same as the NVH I got on my C30 after installing sport springs.

Does it only happen at 110 kph, or does it just get increasingly louder as you approach 110 kph? We don't have any vibration, but the tyre roar is pretty bad on our coarse road surfaces...heaps in VIC...I noticed some really nice smooth road surfaces in various places on a recent road trip up to Sydney where the car was almost silent at 100-110 kph, but down here it's almost painfully loud on some of the really coarse chip road surfaces. I'm wondering how much of it is due to the design of the tyres vs. the suspension? I plan to change to a different tyre (probably a Michelin EV tyre with the foam noise suppression ring) when these Pirelli P Zeros wear out...may be a few more years though as we have over 20,000 km and they don't look at all worn!
I just heard from my dealer. They said that Volvo says the vibration might be caused by the front axles and there is a new bulletin on it. I’ll let you know when I hear more.
Quick update: Volvo is asking the dealer to swap wheels with another XC40 Recharge first and then if that doesn’t work, proceed with replacing the front axles.

Thanks, please keep us posted. This looks like an important step forward toward solving the issue.
Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone. Quick background: took delivery of my XC40 Recharge Twin Ultimate at the end of April, and I am experiencing the same vibrations described in this thread (and a few others as well). One thing occurred to me: has anyone (on this thread or elsewhere) experienced similar steering wheel vibrations on strong acceleration / at higher speeds with a single-motor version of the C40 or XC40? This might matter: if it turns out that no one with a single-motor C40 or XC40 has experienced it, could the problem relate to a synchronization/timing issue between back and front motors? From my layman's point of view, this is exactly what the vibration feels like...

It's not audible. It's a high frequency vibration through the steering wheel. It feels like suspension NVH, but doesn't seem to matter what the road texture is. But it does get more noticeable the faster you drive.

I noticed it towards the end of a long drive, so it might be related to the tyre pressures increasing as the tyres warm up. I'll do some testing and report back.

Ahh, OK, we don't get any vibration in the steering wheel, floor, seat or anything so I guess our car isn't experiencing this issue.
I have a '21 P8 with no vibration issues, but had the opportunity to drive a '22 C40 Twin recently. I immediately felt the vibration at 65mph and above. It is similar to the "lane departure" warning (vibration feeling in the steering wheel) but more subtle. Could be the front driveshafts we've been reading about -- I don't know, but interesting.

there are many with single motors experiencing the issue sadly
Just got my car back from Fairfax Volvo today. They couldn't reproduce the issue despite two technicians trying on two days so they wouldn't even try to check the balance of the wheels 🤷‍♂️ The service ticket notes say they tried at 60, 70, and 72...didn't say anything about 65 which is what I told them makes it come out the most. The service manager just said they have to go through 65 to go from 60 to 70. So we'll see when I take it back on the highway in a couple of days. I may try a different shop...anyone know of any dealers in the DC-Baltimore area that are more familiar with this issue?

I don’t know if they are more familiar with the issue, but Don Beyer Volvo has a great service department. I use the one in Ashburn, but they have a facility in Falls Church too.

When will Volvo fix this vibration issue? Has anyone had the issue fixed with a driveshaft replacement?

Silver Springs Volvo has seen the issue on my car. But it isn't fixed yet.
Just picked up a C40 this afternoon and yep, have this problem also. Shame, there's a lot to like about the car but it's a Care By Volvo 5 month lease so at least I have an exit plan.

Interesting - I'm not seeing a new / updated TSB in the Workshop Library yet.
A-P, is the Workshop Library publicly available or is it behind an employee-only wall?

I believe you can see the newer TSB "titles" for free at the following link: Volvo Car Bookstore

Though to access the full bulletin, I believe, requires a VIDA subscription (which I was paying for when I posted that original reply).
Looks like the Technical Journal article posted eariler in this thread was updated to TJ36424.1.1-2023-04-12 from TJ36424.1.0-2023-01-10. Car is going back in next week for another minor issue and they have told me that they will do a test drive with a "Master Tech" and I to demonstrate the issue.
