What is this hollow peanut shell or butternut squash shaped thing inside the cabin? 🤔

It's for the accessory dog guard/mesh cargo barrier accessory. You can install a plastic insert coat hook there if you like - can be bought from Volvo dealer or aftermarket (AliExpress, eBay, etc). I just ordered some from dealer - black/charcoal colour - part numbers below. Also available in other colours to suit your headlining colour.

For those who don't yet have the car, there are two pair of peanut receptacles, one just behind the passenger seats, the other just behind the front seats.
