Seems a bit overdue for an update but, no, nobody's posted anythig yet here. Early news of OS updates often pop up first on the FB from Volvo owners in Europe.

 

Any rumours or idea about update 2.11?

No idea about v2.11 features. Only thing I know for certain is that v3.0 is in development as stated by Polestar (Volvo's premium brand). I think the update (be it v2.11 or v3.0) will arrive in September since everyone at Volvo is now likely on vacation.

 

I remember last year August was slow and I do not believe any updates came out due to time offs and vacation. September, they came in rocking and rolling.

 

 

question is whether it will be 2.11 or 3.0. Probably the latter

 

Volvo went from v1.10 to v2.0. So there's a chance we'll go from v2.10 to v3.0

My 2021 XC40 is finally working well with no glaring problems. I'm in no rush to destabilize it with another of Volvo's 'one step forward - two steps back' software updates.

although from all the updates (car came with 2.3.1), I never experienced any problem that might be related to the OS updated

 

3.0 suggests more than an incremental update compared to 2.11. Who knows? Perhaps the first week on September we will hear about what’s coming.

Yes, the release notes were just posted yesterday: OTA (Over The Air) Software Updates

Updates in software version 2.11

• The YouTube app.
• Adds the ability to turn off the wireless phone charger.
• Adds the ability to schedule the timing of future software installations (OTAs).
• The towbar folding function has been improved to be more responsive.
• Improvements to the cars visual position in the center display for the 360° camera.
• Minor drivetrain adjustments that do not affect performance, certification, homologation, or environmental protection.

I look most forward to the 360 cam update. Hope the edges where the transition between the cameras are are far less noticeable.

I'm happy there'll now be an option to disable the wireless charger. It's handy on long trips, but most of the time I don't want my phone warmed up for city driving.

I've talked to my dealer about this. He says that Volvo tested the feature internally but it failed to pass it's Quality Assurance so they shelved the idea.

Correct. At this time you would need to go to your Volvo dealer to have it installed. Per Volvo, software updates are available OTA within 2-3 weeks after the release date, which is 9/4 in the case of 2.11.

OTAs depend on the country; in my case it's literally 2 weeks from announcement, so will be 18th September '23

None that is official but you can use the contact us form in the Volvo site for your country.

 

Wireless CarPlay would require hardware. Not likely.

 

The cars may already have sufficient hardware. We don’t really know .

the car already has Bluetooth and wifi. It supposedly would need a “dual band router” which it might

 

The only way of making wireless CarPlay/Android Auto possible without a dongle would be a hardware upgrade package offered from Volvo. Now, how likely it's gonna be that Volvo will offer that upgrade and for how much idk. If the second refresh of current cars does happen (and that the refresh gets brand new powerful hardware) we might get the upgrade package.

 

Picked up my new 2023 (see other thread with sad destruction of my 2021) and it came with 2.11.

Need to go through the options more. A few more personalization options, but nothing huge.

The salesman, who was clearly versed on the Recharge, said Volvo has no plans for wireless Carplay given the degree of phone battery usage.

 

You know what would be great? Some stability with backup cameras and reduction of lag. Waiting 1.5sec to navigate between menus is infuriating when you're trying to focus on driving.

 

Yes, same with my camera. The feed regularly flickers and freezes every morning when I back out of the garage.

 

Yeah, my backup camera has gotten much worse when first getting into the car. It will start to lag out while reversing and then it's like it briefly restarts (black screen flash for half a second) - but it will do this 4 or 5 times.

I haven't figured out if it's mostly just doing this when a different profile was used on the last drive, or if it's every time.
