I love the P8 Recharge. But I also love moving towards the future and a lower emissions future at that And I want people to know that.

If I had purchased a Tesla, Mach-E, I3, Leaf or any number of uniquely platformed and designed cars, that commitment to the future would be obvious. But this new and unique car looks just like the ICE versions. The badging is unreadable and P8 means nothing to the car driving behind me. Even the “Recharge” on the C-pillar is nearly unreadable and looks too much like the “R-Design” that has been on the top ICE XC40s.

How can we advertise to the world that this is fully battery electric car?

I tried to get a unique license plate, which said “P8 Recharge Pure Electric - 300kW Dual Motor AWD”. But my wife said it looked like crap so it is in the trash now. I ordered a similarly worded vinyl sticker, but don’t think that will pass the spousal test either when it arrives.

Any ideas? Or do most of you think I am off my rocker?

BTW, I spent nearly the same amount on drilling 3 holes in my front yard and installed a pair of geo-thermal heat pumps. My few friends are tired of hearing about that experience and I don’t plan on putting a sign in the front yard advertising it.

I can understand wanting to show your commitment, although I sort of want to stay under the radar.

One thing you could do is fill in the Recharge indents on the C-Pillar with bright paint or decals. I'd probably trace it with paper and cut some white decals to insert, but that might be a little tedious to get right.

So, going the other way, I have a couple reasons why I'm reticent to advertise -- one, that there's a number of stories of "ICE hatred" that have bothered me, like road-rage or coal-rolling, etc. Here in California that's probably far less a concern than say, Texas. Second is a little more fun -- I like being able to drop jaws when I punch the accelerator and move along from some tyro with a V8. Maybe not so much as a Tesla S would do but it's still kind of fun. :)

In North Carolina Duke Energy is collaborating with Plug In NC to get a special EV license plate.

Plug In NC is covering the initial $10 fee (personalized plates are an additional $30) and needs 500 application to get the new plate issued.

Charge out in public.

One time a couple stood there staring for a while, me being hyper social approached.

“So does that pump gas as well as electricity?” One asked.

No I answer it is a electric … then I gushed about it.

Talked to 5 other people who had worked it out. Sure it’s under the radar when it’s stationary but when you pull in and people hear that ear splitting roar of the v8 and you know that they know what you’ve got under the hood … an ev :)

In general I do what I always do. Look for the eye contact that means a conversation is permitted with the extra of they looked at my car and off I go about Evs. It is amazing how enthusiastic people are about them :)
