Sunroof Reset?

10193 Views 21 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  JT Rock
Does anyone know of a way to reset the sunroof? After the last update it seemed to be stuck at fully closed (THANKFULLY) ever since, pressing the open / close touch sensitive control now only controls the sunshade.

Can't take the car into the dealership anytime soon, thanks for any tips!

Unless 1.7 changed something, you should be swiping for the shade and pressing for the sunroof.
I had this problem after having my Recharge in for service (including 1.7 update). They had to recalibrate the sunroof. Took about 20-30 minutes.
Thank you jasdata, my kids and i love the sunroof, but am remis to go to the dealer to have them "calibrate" the sunroof!
Is there anyway to try and fix this at home? I have the same issue. Luckily my uncle is the service advisor at my dealer, so I have an in, but I hate to waste a day taking the car in just for something this stupid.

Normal behavior is swiping for both, pressing once on the back side just vents the roof. Swiping once will open shade and swiping again will open roof. Can be done in quick succession and both will happen at same time.

1.7 must have changed something, because my roof has the same behavior as OP and it didn’t start until I applied the 1.7 update. Because the switch is still moving the sunshade that implies the software is at fault.
So I'll say the dealer told me it was because they had unplugged the 12v battery and drive battery at the same time multiple times because of issues installing the 1.7 update as well as eventually replacing the onboard charger. I had never heard of a sunroof "calibration" before and assumed it was something else that had gone wrong on my car, but turns out it really is a thing. I didn't spend too much time googling to see if I could find the steps to try and do it myself. So unsure if its something you can try yourself or not.
I figured it out, hope this works for you also! It’s so stupid that I can’t believe it is even necessary.
In my car I never shut the sunshade, and after the 1.7 update the button swipe didn’t work.

The fix (with the car in Drive so everything is powered up)
1. Hold down the front button so the sunshade fully closes. This is the step I never ever do because I like the open feeling.
2. Swipe to open the sunshade.
3. Swipe and the sunroof should open as normal.

I hope this helps everyone else that has the same issue.

I had read they changed the controls. Thanks for working them out. Update notes should really have all the changes since last build in them.

Maybe Volvo is following Apple’s ‘hidden features’ model.

Meanwhile, in a top-secret Volvo laboratory …
Pssst. Looks like nobody has found the hidden eject button yet. What an Easter egg! It took the engineering department months to build it!

LOL. It's all fun and games until little Jimmy gets launched thru the sunroof! :ROFLMAO:
Checking in, figured it out myself but ColoradoCruiser is 100%, you have to fully close the shade and then it's working again.
Requiring the user to learn tricky swipe gestures to operate the sunroof is one of the worst UI decisions I've seen in a while. My criteria: anything that makes me feel like a helpless idiot is poor UI design.

OK it's not really THAT hard if you practice a bit. But it takes precision to start the swipes & presses in the right spots. I find I have to look carefully at the control before touching anything or I get unexpected results. I can't operate it without looking.

EDIT: would be nice if I could just say "Hey Google, open the sunroof" - but doesn't seem to work :(
What was wrong with the old (typical) sunroof controls? Change for the sake of change is stupid. If they did it this way so that Google could control it, then OK I guess, but this feels like a solution in search of a problem.

Not Google in this case - would be nice, though. My guess is this was an (unsuccessful) attempt to "simplify" things, so as to avoid having separate toggle buttons for the roof and screen (each of which has 3 or 4 different positions, resulting in lots of possible combinations).
Agreed. Not only an awful ui choice but a deviation from the rest of the ui. Thank god the idiot who brought swipes to the sun roof did not get to define the rest of the ui ….
So I had this issue as well. Mine has the button not the swipe. 1. Have the the shade in the close position even if the roof is still open. 2. Let go of the button then push and hold close and continue to hold. After about 15 seconds or so glass will close but then run through the entire cycle to be reset. IMPORTANT: Do Not let go of the close button until it has ran a full cycle. Hope this helps.

What car do you have? Gas, hybrid? As far as I know - all of our pure EV model XC40s have the stupid swipe controls, not buttons.

Mutter. I still have sunroof anxiety!!! I should probably practice every time I drive !! Stupid swipey crap!!

I like swiping on my iPhone and iPad. And that is it. Everywhere else I like clicking or pushing.

I guess I should be thankful the whole ui is not gesture enabled ….
This works very well. Thank you for posting that, you saved me so much trouble going at the dealer, etc.

Same as you, I never ever close the shade.
