Hi folks... wife just took delivery of an XC40; we had considered a few other cars including even an Alfa Giulia but settled on the XC40 as we have been Volvo owners for 6 years (my car as a C30 Polestar) and have a very good relationship with our local dealer (Englewood Volvo in NJ.) She is liking the car quite a lot but is understandably a little daunted by the complexity of some of the electronics... specifically, she tells me that the speed limit display that appears under the current speed display comes and goes, and cannot figure out how to configure that. Any advice? I assume that display must be dependent on querying a database which correlates to GPS info, so is it normal for the info to sometimes be there and sometimes not? Obviously this is not at all a major issue, but she finds the feature very useful so misses it when it's not showing up!

I'm interested in an answer too. Just rented a car in the UK that had that feature and I really liked that I could simply see the speed limit as it changed as we drove along. Sometimes it disapperaed so it may be the data source for everyone is an issue. I came accross two very new roundabouts which were not in the navigation/speed system so someone has to keep the system up to date and still have to keep awake to conditions.

Same exact thing happens with both my Audi and my Jeep. I believe it's just the mapping software data. If the speed limit data is there, it shows up. If not, then you get nothing. I've heard there's new technology out there where a camera on the car "reads" the speed limit signs and updates the display that way as well.

Road Sign Information

See page 335 of the manual of the car. This function is called Road Sign Information. I do not have navigation in the XC40 (Momentum), but this is still working for me. Not based on a database, but RSI simply is able to read road signs and uses this to display the speed limit in the speedometer. Pretty cool .

to disable

The feature uses tow gamer to recognize speed limit signs. It can be disable on the Vehicle Information screen. furthermore, the 'alarm' can be set or disabled under vehicle settings screen under 'intellisafe.' Hope that helps

trying again: The feature uses the camera to recognize speed limit signs. It can be disable on the Vehicle Information screen so it does not show in the instrument screen. furthermore, the 'alarm' can be set or disabled under vehicle settings screen under 'intellisafe.' Hope that helps
