Can you tell me where? I don't have the app and I'm not likely to get it since I don't do road trips, but I'm curious. I'm in the Bay Area. I took one road trip up up I-5 to Washington using CCS fast charge and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I'll use our gas car if I ever do it again.

One is in Scotts Valley and the other in Placerville.

Does anyone know if the Volvo Google maps shows these supercharger/magic dock locations as charging sites for the XC40 Recharge?
Yes, they will be used in route planning by Google Maps. It may take a while for Google to update their data, but after a couple of weeks after opening up for non-Teslas, the Superchargers will appear like any other charging station. (My experience in Europe)

It's happening right now. So far there are only a handful of superhcargers open, all in New York.

Lucky for us, the Recharge is one of the few CCS EVs that has the charging port at the driver's side rear of the car - just like Teslas. So the supercharger cables should be perfectly set up for us.

So, what additional hardware do I need to use Tesla Superchargers, if any? Thank you!

As a Tesla and Volvo EV owner, I have just begun to learn about the new Tesla "MagicDock". Keep in mind until they add longer cords, other EV's will be blocking access sometimes as they will park sideways to gain access. Also, the cost WILL be more expensive possibly than other EV charging networks. Elon Musk does plan to make money providing the non-Tesla cars.

I don’t have an issue with cost, as long as it’s reliable. That’s the biggest issue in my part of the country where a route can be considered “built out” with just one single 50kW charger. And the company that built them is awful at maintenance, so you have to hope the charger works (looking at you, ZEF).

Quick article showed up in AppleNews feed today: A total of eight Tesla stations have been retrofitted with Magic Dock as of this week, six in New York, two in California. That's it. Tesla has offered neither comment nor a build-out schedule.

sorry, I have not read the entire thread so I might be repeating the obvious... It looks like the Magic Dock is not permanently attached to the cargeing cable. Is that correct? Does the Magic Dock only engage and get deployed if a non-Tesla attempts to gain access to the pole?

Clearly, an experimental project in progress. Tesla will need to add a meter or two to some cables and that would require extensive modifications and a lot of cash. And some stations will need to be completely reconfigured for pull-through access for trucks pulling trailers and, to receive the full federal cash prize, Tesla really should be required to provide ADA accessible stalls at a few stations.

As EV consumers, we're going to need a new station usage etiquette to keep everyone happy and charging in peace. Plenty of room in this experiment for mistakes, misunderstandings, and for some Tesla owners to get salty. Out here in the Wild Wild West, that could be, erm, potentially dangerous.

The magic dock is the place where the Tesla connecter sits in the supercharger. When a tesla pulls up, he/she just pulls out the Tesla connector and plugs in their car.
To charge with a not tesla you have to activate the Magic Dock through the Tesla app. The Tesla to CCS adaptor locks onto the end of the cable and then you remove the entire end from the magic dock to start charging your non Tesla on a Supercharger.

Here is the exact process:

Tesla is receiving $billions (exact amount not known yet) from the US government to open their network, with a promise of thousands of CCS stations. The project just began and it looks like Supercharger V4, coming soon, has a longer cable that should alleviate vehicle positioning issues. Yes, current V3 stations pose some challenges, though not for XC40 Recharges. I expect the CCS Supercharger network will not be built out in the USA until another year or so.
I am looking forward to using it.
I plan to visit the Scott’s Valley CCS Supercharger location soon.

You are correct. The numbers of CCS compatible Superchargers that Tesla gave (3,500?) is by the end of 2024.

Apropos the inevitable crowding that will occur at some USA Tesla stations, Car & Driver magazine (behind a paywall, sorry) has a quick EV etiquette article in the April 2023 issue, available at newsstands:

The Please and Thank You of Plugging In: As public EV charging becomes mainstream, it’s clear there’s a need for a class in common courtesy

Having a bit of snarky fun, author Emme Hall points out the more egregious sins committed by the ignorant and passive aggressive: plugging in a Tesla at a public station, using the fastest charger for no good reason, going to 100% when there's a line, and refusing to particpate in crowd-sourced apps.

By the way, UK's April issue of CAR magazine includes ten EV articles including the start of a long term series all about the C40: It’s nicely turned out and intelligently designed. But at £60,000, the smallest Volvo SUV needs to be exceptionally good. By Ben Whitworth

Tesla stations are not special with regards to poor etiquette. Just a few days ago I came upon an EVgo site (a measly two 50 kW units) and a BZ4X was connected but the session was not initiated, so owner could get a nice parking spot near Whole Foods entrance and pretend to charge. I needed to charge (~15% SoC on my e-Golf) and took the connector. I normally don’t remove connectors (especially if they are locked to the car thanks to a live charging session), but the BZ4X owner behavior was very inconsiderate and actual charging trumps posing.
