It's happening right now. So far there are only a handful of superhcargers open, all in New York.

Lucky for us, the Recharge is one of the few CCS EVs that has the charging port at the driver's side rear of the car - just like Teslas. So the supercharger cables should be perfectly set up for us.

It's just a matter of time. I think they are holding off on converting the stations that are already high-use, though.
This would make sense as they don't want to tick off the Teslarati. :)

Having those extra available stations in NY state means taking my car on our trips from NH to MI might become more manageable.

What I've been able to find so far:

  • There seem to be several supercharger locations with Magic Docks fitted that aren't active on the maps yet. I've seen Ohio Turnpike mentioned, as well as some other locations in NY.
  • It looks like they are only being retrofitted onto V3 chargers. You can tell they are V3 on Plugshare because they can charge at >150kW.
  • There is speculation that the retrofitting crews are operating out of the Buffalo, NY factory, which is why most of the retrofits are in NY so far.

Version 4 Tesla superchargers are forthcoming!

Can't happen fast enough for me.

Access to Tesla's hardware will be a tremendous benefit to EV road trippers in my part of the USA (eastern northwest, high desert, western plains. southwestern expanses, and the surrounding emptiness, Nebraska to Joshua Tree, Yakima to Las Vegas, Denver to Salt Lake, Boise to Seattle, &c). Even at Tesla's premium prices, reliable equipment and up to date status reports will make long journeys in EVs possible and enjoyable.

I've been reviewing dozens of yootoobs documenting EV road trips, looking for commentary about Tesla stations and comparing their usage levels to conventional pumps/stations. The big thing I've noticed is that route planning apps provide only marginally reliable crowd-based information on pump uptime. Many drivers arrive at a station to find few, if any, pumps online and those that are may be 50kW or have chademo plugs. Meanwhile, Tesla stations on many of these interstate corridors are described as "under-utilized" or "empty".

Yes, there are a couple of Tesla stations south of me in Pennsylvania (Mansfield and Williamsport) that would be game-changers for me if they open up. They'll change that route from "technically possible" to "no problemo". (We're currently only taking the ICE X3 on that route as the gaps between chargers are a little too hairy for the Recharge.)

Came back to the same Chevy dealership to charge up for a bit and found a Tesla Model 3 juicing up. The guy is trying to get to Little Rock, AR and found himself at a Tesla supercharger station in Brinkley flooded up completely. Can’t plan for this scenario very legit! Now - that brings up another point - which is the design of canopies and leveling up grounds to be at higher elevation so you don’t run into a flooded scenario!

We had a big tornado and rain storm last night in the area where I am. Guy loves this free charge pit stop. Waiting for him to depart as the other charging pit the C40 is plugged doesn’t work - stuck at “initializing charging”!

@improvius is PA really that bad, I am planing on traveling north up I81 from WNC to LI thru PA.

Have already noticed ABRP has me stopping at a EA in VA that doesn’t really exist according to the EA app.

Your route should be fine. My route is a problem because it runs through the middle of PA, which is kind of a CCS dark zone right now. There are a couple of Supercharger locations in the middle of all that which would make the drive much, much easier for the Recharge.

I understand that; my in-laws in MI are in a charger wasteland, and there are no Tesla Superchargers unless you go to Ann Arbor. For reference, the lower part of the map shows the Ohio line and I80/90 (Ohio Tpke) at the bottom. The charger in Adrian is $2/hr for a 6kW L2. The DC charger in Dundee is around 60kW, but it's an ~20-mile drive.
