Sad goodbye to a car I couldn’t have

So yesterday I stopped by my dealership to get an update on my order of an XC40 R-Design I placed back in April just to find out that i’m still listed as “pending approval” and it might take about 7 months for delivery... I placed two orders and one had an ETA of October 12th. but it could take longer according to the dealer... very disappointed I requested a refund on my deposits and sadly will be going to a different car.

I understand demands was far more greater than ever anticipated but not everybody can wait, for me I have waited 5 months already... at the end, there will be another time to get one.

Good luck to all of you in your wait, hopefully you’ll get to drive such an awesome, good looking SUV. :crying

Unfortunately it takes a real Volvo purist to wait for these to come out but i'm sure once things get up to speed you might give them a second look.
It might be a good idea to state what you're getting, many others might be in your same position.
The XC40 will be getting hybrid/electric variants in the future, so you could always revisit then. Though if they are having issues meeting production demands on an ICE, it'll probably only be worse with an electric powertrain.

Lexdrak, hate to see you leave the forum but I fully understand. Have you decided what car you plan on getting? I have been looking at others as well (Lexus, Lincoln) so if the Volvo doesn't show up in December then I'll be car shopping for Christmas! Take care and good luck with your car shopping!

Go check out the new Acura RDX. It's a bit bigger than the XC40, but it's actually an awesome vehicle. My mother just picked one up and it's quite good with the new turbo 4-cylinder engine and the 10-speed transmission. It's also loaded with more technology than I've ever seen in a vehicle.

This new RDX just came out and Acura dealers are absolutely loaded with them already, so getting a decent deal on them isn't too difficult. I don't know why Volvo is having such a hard time with the XC40.
I understand. I nearly walked several times. I ordered in April and now have a VIN and delivery is due shortly. If Volvo said much longer I would not wait. There are other good cars out there. What are you looking at?
Frustration

I am in the boat as you. My primary vehicle was declared a total loss in an accident back in April and after 2 months of hunting I decided the XC40 was the vehicle for me and my family. I placed a factory order for an r-design on June 1st and I was told it would come in the end of September. I was then told Halloween, then November and now possibly February 2019.

The vehicle I am currently driving is 18 years old that was never anticipated to be driven into the fall.

It is now October 11th and they still cannot even provide me with a VIN...4 months after placing the order and taking my deposit.

I am currently attempting to get my deposit in full so I can get into a different vehicle. I understand it is likely out of the dealerships control but when I placed my order back in June if I was told it may not come in until Feb I would have gone else where. The xc40 was to replace a vehicle and I never wanted to wait 9 months driving an old unreliable and most likely very unsafe vehicle.

I hear you. My wonderful 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD (diesel) died in an accident in March. Ordered an XC40 in April after determination to scrap the Jeep. I was told various delivery dates. I am now REALLY close, have a VIN and went through credit/insurance approval for the Care By Volvo program. At the dealer today they said the car is in the US port. When it is loaded for delivery it will take 4 days for delivery, preparation and paperwork. Any day now for me. I have survived with using my wife's car, will be nice to have my own. But if I thought it was longer I'm not sure I would wait. There are other good cars out there. Eventually production will catch up with demand and I expect to see XC40s sitting on the lot unsold, discounted. Just not yet, and I can understand most people are not in my position where it is not an overwhelming inconvenience to wait.
That is fabulous your vehicle is only days away!!! Please attach pictures when it comes in. I am very envious. I am in Canada but assuming the timelines are similar it looks like I will not get min until December or Jan :(

The fan in the 2000 TDI jetta w/ 400,000 km I am currently driving stopped working yesterday and with -40 C weather and snow approaching having a vehicle without hot air does not seem very realistic. Repairing the vehicle is also unrealistic... it would cost more than what the vehicle is worth.

I agree with the fact not every customer is in urgent need of their vehicle. I wish that was not the case with me and I could wait... because I would. Better communication with Volvo from the start would have eased a lot of this headache!

Apparently the owner of my local dealership is in contact with the VP of Volvo Canada regarding my case. Hopefully they have some answers for me to make a decision by the end of the month or I will have to walk. I have small children who don't need to become popsicles in the cold weather with no heating.

XC40 family, received my VIN# yesterday with a est. delivery early-mid November! Will be satisfied when I get the credit/insurance approval for the Care By Volvo program! The waiting game is almost over:grin

Congratulations, Mike. It's going to be a long few weeks ;)
So, I keep coming back to the forum to check on the status of other members in waiting list. Glad to hear some of you have finally received some news; not for me tho, I went ahead and purchase two 2019 Lexus NX-300 F Sport 4WD with all the bells and whistles. I have to say, as a first time owner of a Lexus, I'm digging the car, it looks sharp, I order a White with Black interior and it's nice, very upscale looking; mine is a Nebula Grey Pearl with Rioja Red Nuluxe With Dark Umber Trim interior... aggressive, sportier, very pleased.

I still wish I could have had the chance on the XC40 though... sigh...

Maybe next time. Good luck everyone!

We are fortunate. We decided to order as overseas delivery which must have jumped us to the front of the line. We could have flown over to get it as early as 90 days after order. We fly over in December 2018. Can’t wait!!!
