Hi all,

I'm curious about the limitations of the perpendicular auto park feature. Quite often people will park across the street from our garage which is on a narrow street. I can get the car into the garage myself with about 3 maneuvers but I'm wondering if the auto park will struggle with this situation when there are vehicles on the opposite side of the street. I've watch a number of videos on Youtube but they all had plenty of space.

Any input or tips would be appreciated.

TurboNeil,

WOW!! I feel your pain. I don't know what would happen in that case. I am not even sure how you get in and out even when there are no cars there. I would guess unless you disabled cross-traffic and other supposed to be good safety features, the Volvo would assume that there is a car that you are about to hit and would apply the brakes. I have tons of space to pull into and back out of my garage, but my problem is that it is a small 1-car garage and I bought the Volvo XC40 for a lot of reasons, but one was the length of the car. In order for me to be able to have the garage door close, I need to pull in a certain amount and the safety feature will sometimes kick in and stop the XC40 even though I know I can creep forward another 14" or so. It could force me to crash because of needing to accelerate and then manually try to stop within that small distance that would have been easy if I had just been allowed to slowly approach without first being abruptly halted because it thinks a stack of towels or blankets in the front of the garage are perceived as something dangerous that the car is about to hit, bump, touch. :) I am looking forward to hearing what others have to say to you about your situation. I am definitely intrigued.

As I posted in a another thread the XC40 didn't include the Park in feature which is really disappointing, the good news is that I was able to get it into the garage with vehicles parked across the street without too much of a problem. Today I'm having a guy coming in to modify the entrance of the garage (chamfering off the corners) to make it even easier to park it.

Cheers.

I'm not sure what country this is. In my opinion, a small street such as this, should not allow street parking at all. I would visit your municipality / police and ask that a no parking sign be posted along the walls of the houses directly across from your garage.

I'm in Mexico and the town I live in is over 450 years old so the streets are what they are. We live very close to downtown and trying to find parking isn't easy at the best of times so I don't blame people for parking there. Even with cars parked there I can get in without too much trouble thanks to the turning radius of the XC40 and the parking sensors but it seems rediculous that volvo charges you a measly $200 for the park in feature and even more rediculous that you can't add it afterwards.
