The thing I like most about 2.9 is that the next iteration might be 3.0 and hopefully a major update :D

Don't forget we had v1.10, so why not v2.10? lol

“2.10 will not be OTA”

I notice that Polestar got some additional features. I wonder if the XC40/C40 will get a projected range choice and historical graph.

  • Significant upgrades to Range Assistant app.
    • Improved algorithm for instant consumption refined for more immediate feedback based on driver actions.
    • Recent energy consumption graph available for last 20/40/100 km.
    • Improved algorithm for projected range with more stable and realistic range based on driving style, ambient conditions, and vehicle load.
    • Selectable projected range to be shown in driver display via app settings, in place of standard range projection.
  • New features in Apple CarPlay.

Thanks for reporting this here. I would like to have a consumption graph -- I'd been thinking that the most likely place for it would be the currently empty bottom-right area of the Range Assistant app.

While there are interesting similarities and what the kids likje to call synergies between Polestar and parents Volvo/Geely, they are different companies with different pathways into the future.
These kids say they are part of the same company.

Seems like from the release note, 2.0 correspond to a switch to AAOS 11.

Seems to me, Volvo is targetting a less technically savy/interested demographic. So a graph, ouch. Crossing my finger I'm wrong.

There could be some merit to this. Not specifically less technically savvy, but an older more "mature" generation. Polestar is perhaps aimed at the younger/digital native generation.

There has also been an ongoing design ethic from volvo to keep things simple and uncluttered. To lower the information the driver is presented.

The old only show a soc percentage vs continuous range. But perhaps that is changing.

That said I would love a graph or 20 …

It's confusing, yes. Nonetheless, Polestar and Volvo are differnet companies, widely separated at almost every level except financially. Personally, I do not understand why some of us think Polestar's software should, in any way, resemble Volvo's. I have no way of knowing, of course, but the two OS systems run on different platforms and perform different functions, albtough they could possibly come from the same company or development team.

From CNN:
Even while its cars are being built in a Chinese factories Polestar still clearly wants to be seen as a Scandinavian company. Its corporate headquarters is in Gothenburg, Sweden, just a few minutes away from Volvo’s. Scandinavian design, antiseptically simple, infuses even the headquarters building, a four-story ice-white cube with additional office space snaking out behind it.
Polestar will still rely on Volvo for some things. In the US, for instance, Polestar will have its own showrooms but the cars will be serviced at Volvo dealerships. Cars will be picked up from customers, taken for service and returned, though, so that Volvo connection will be largely invisible to customers, Polestar spokespeople said.
Polestar has also set up its own research and development center in Coventry, England. This will allow Polestar to concentrate more on its own technical challenges instead of just drawing from Volvo and Geely, said Ingenlath. Polestar will continue to draw from the broader family for components that don’t differentiate the brand while its researchers and engineers, while researching in new areas, also find ways to improve on or alter what the group offers.

From Voivo's media site:
“Polestar is our affiliate brand and an important business partner, as it plays a key role in our strategic direction to become fully electric by 2030 and shape the future of mobility,” said Johan Ekdahl, Chief Financial Officer, Volvo Cars. He added, “The financial support provided by us along with Polestar’s other main owner will ensure Polestar remains steadfast on further delivering on its ambitions as a performance EV car brand.”

To add to the confusion, Austrailian auto blog DRIVE says:
Today’s Polestar vehicles look similar to Volvo cars even though they wear unique sheetmetal – and share underpinnings with Volvo cars, as well as a number of interior components.
For example, the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3 (pictured above) wear different bodywork, and have different numbers of seats (seven in the Volvo, five in the Polestar). But under the skin the two vehicles are identical, with the same dual-motor drivetrains, power outputs, and near-identical interiors – sharing steering wheels, centre consoles, seats, touchscreens, instrument displays, and more.

From wiki:
Polestar is a Swedish automotive brand established in 1996 by Volvo Cars' partner Flash/Polestar Racing and acquired in 2015 by Volvo, which itself was acquired by Geely in 2010.[3] It is headquartered in Torslanda outside Gothenburg, Sweden[4]with vehicle production taking place in China.[5]

A similar graph is available on Sensus-equipped Volvos (i.e. pre-AAOS), so maybe it‘s coming back…
Polestar 2 and XC40 Recharge are built on the same CMA platform and both use AAOS, so they share almost identical hardware and software. I think it is reasonable to expect similar software capability on both cars.

2.8 has a new bug where the volume bar gets stuck on the top of everything else and only s hard reset fixes it. Fyi I have never had this before on any version prior. Otherwise 2.8 has been solid for a few weeks now. I will update everyone when I get 2.9

Not quite the same though, as the software written for the bigger Polestar IHU screen is not portable to the smaller Volvo screen, and the other way round too. Their apps have to be written with this quirk in mind.

The capacity for similar definitely but if they are different teams doing the software then there is no expectation for the same things to happen on both platforms.

Would it be sensible to have the two teams be integrated. Sure. But sense is not the driving force in the universe :)

Oddly polestar and volvo “compete” with each other.

My car was in today after waiting almost 8 months for a replacement topography passenger lighting part and they installed update 2.9 to clear out some propulsion errors.

CarPlay maps (directions) does appear on the drivers display.
CarPlay phone calls can be answer and hung up via steering (also muted bu using right and left arrows & pressing middle button)
CarPlay tile does show play, forward, etc

What disappointed me a bit is that the assistant button on the steering still invoked google assistant and not SIRI while in apple CarPlay mode. Would be nice if they added the feature.

If you hold the assistance button you will get Siri (at least on 2.7!) Maybe not quite as convenient, but then you can do either as needed (e.g. I use Google for navigating but Apple for music.)
