On Call not available - how significant?

Threads on this forum indicate that the On Call app will not be available for the XC40 Recharge for almost two years. How significant is this?

I don’t see value in the concierge services, but perhaps it is important for controlling and monitoring the charge and preconditioning of the car?

Thanks!

Well from a post from @Jersey in another thread for the XC40 Recharge, the in car functionality is no active either.
She unfortunately got a flat tire a week into having the car and had to do a run around with Dealership to get the car towed (no spare tire on car)

So yes you are without any remote monitoring of the car till this is released. Though your timeline is off - Summer 2021 is the official date Volvo is promising.

This kind of app is essential for an EV's daily operation and so Volvo will probably make it available as soon as possible.

Right - it is the Apple CarPlay that is delayed that long. My mistake!

Correct - 'Early 2022' was on their communication for CarPlay and Android Auto connections.

Wow, these are new information to me - thank you!

Check out the P8 Deliveries Delayed thread - majority of the information is there
For the Volvo On Call, I've lived without those functions for many years so I don't think it will affect me too much to not have it initially. I've had my V60 T8 for about a year, and while I've used VOC on occasion, there really isn't anything that I would miss too much (I live in California so I don't ever need to precondition, and my charger has time of day scheduling built in so I don't have to use the car's app for that, and even if I did that feature is disabled for me for some reason).

For Android Auto/Apple CarPlay being delayed a year, it's hard to know how much that will affect us, because I have found it difficult to find online a list of apps that are available for the built-in Android Automotive system in the XC40. If all the apps that we use are already available (I know Google Maps and Spotify are, but we would also need podcasts and YouTube Music)

I think the emergency feature will be active immediately. Conditioning, monitoring, and that sort of thing will be delayed.

Sure hope so but recent report is it didn’t for one of the fellow forum users. (Flat tire SOS call)
SOS definitely works, as does the VOC button to the call center. VOC app beta SW will be available end April. More robust VOC app SW in early June. Apple Car play early December.
Not sure how accurate this is:

Android automotive apps
All of those apps are available for download and installation on my XC40 recharge.
And, the ones I have downloaded work.
The car does link to my home wifi for downloads when in the garage.

Podcasts and You Tube music is available and works. For you tube, you must be a subscriber.
Sirius works through blue tooth media streaming.

Also, there is a nice NPR app and of course all the other streaming music services on the main function screen.

Good to know. Plan to test SOS button at dealership if my car ever arrives.
