All sound in my 2021 Recharge was somehow disabled today while I was driving, including the sound for the turn signal, Bluetooth audio, SiriusXM radio and FM radio. It looked like music was "playing" but there was no actual sound. I tried turning the radio on and off; I tried adjusting the volume on the steering wheel, on the manual dial in the center console and in the volume drop down menu; nothing worked. The oddest thing is that when I turned on my blinker to make a turn there was no sound at all although the turn signal did light up on the console. This sound/blinker issue happened once before a month or two ago for a few seconds but immediately fixed itself, but this lasted for the length of my entire drive, about 20 minutes.

I have tried locking and unlocking the car in the hopes that it would reset, but no luck yet. Maybe it will get fixed the next time I charge the car, but I'm curious to see if anyone else has experienced this issue?

This is usually experienced when the system is doing a Re-boot - usually it only last for about 5-10 minutes - have not heard of it lasting for 20 minutes before.

My problem started when my wife unlocked the car and the profile switched to hers and before it was completely loaded I switched back to mine. It did not last 20 minutes because our drive wasn't that long.

I've experienced this as well, maybe once or twice a month. Usually doesn't seem to last more than a few minutes. But a couple times it just didn't come back. Experiencing 15+ mins drives in silence. First I thought it was just affecting the radio, but the first long silence, I realized it was all sound indicators. I found VT Buckeye's solution of holding the home button in, until screen goes dark, then pushing home button again to turn it back on, restored sound.

This happened to me today! I've been looking for answers in the manual and found nothing. I will try this as soon as I get out of work. My entire 50 minute commute was silent. Thank you!

I've had my new XC40 MY23 for a week and had the same issue, no audio working on any interface or input.
I can confirm by resetting the head unit, by holding the home button for 30 seconds resolved the issue. Thanks for sharing the fix.

Hopefully, the reset will resolve this, I'm skeptical considering the number of other posts.

Google is an advertising company, not an auto system specialist... car is running version 2.3.
Don't get me started on Google and its track run of protecting users' data and privacy.

You have to hold it longer - once you see the word Volvo appear on the screen let go and the system will re-boot.

I held it for 20 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds, and 120 seconds x'D None of them did anything whatsoever.

Are you using the horizontal button at the bottom middle of the entertainment screen? The screen should go black and show screen wipe then that disappears and a faded Volvo comes up.

yes, that one. I was also told to press and hold the front defrost button as well. tried both with various amounts of time. none worked.

OK, just to be clear...you hold the home button until after screen cleaning mode appears, and keep holding until VOLVO appears, and you still have the no sound problem? Or you hold the button and you NEVER see screen cleaning mode and you NEVER see the VOLVO text appear? If it's the latter, then your button is broken!

The screen cleaning mode does not appear. At all. That's what I mean, the screen is completely unresponsive.

And just to be clear - your car IS a Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric model, yes?

Yes. And yes I am positive that is the button I am pressing 🤣 just to be clear, the entire screen above that button is completely black. So nothing at all would come up, including the screen cleaning mode and the Volvo text. I called Volvo though and turns out it's not something I can fix myself apparently 🤷‍♀️

If your screen is completely black - then you have worse problems than just "no sound"! Dead screen, dead computer, or both! Time for a visit to your service dept.
