New XC40 P8 Recharge Owner - Few niggles!

Hey all, new XC40 P8 Recharge owner here, firstly I absolutely love the car! I managed to get a leftover '21 First Edition, which I'm very pleased about because I understand if I wanted BLIS/ACC/Pilot Assist/360 Camera etc I'm waiting until 2022, so I count myself lucky as the '21 FE includes every single available pack! Not to mention it's Bursting Blue, which has been deleted from MY22 XC40 P8's in the UK, so it's a bit of a 'unicorn' first-year-only colour.

I do, however, have a couple of annoying niggles that I wondered if anyone has experience;

- VOC/Volvo Cars App - I used to have a V90, and I used the Volvo app to mark my trips business/private, but the new Volvo Cars app doesn't seem to have this? Am I missing something?

- Drivers display - I have had to hard-reset this a couple of times due to the map disappearing, but seems to be working fine now.

- Drivers display - There seems to be no way to display the current music track (from Spotify, or bluetooth, or DAB radio) in either the central display when you're using Maps, or the Drivers display at all. This seems weird? Every car I've had previously with a Digital Driver's Display offered you track the current track, often the ability to scroll through tracks. Even my previous Volvo V90, I'm SURE it had some kind of music/track info in the drivers' display?

- Drivers display - There are absolutely zero settings in the display, this also seems weird? basically the drivers' display seems incomplete/half-finished and doesn't give much info at all. Seems very strange.

- Apple CarPlay/Android Auto - I could have sworn these were standard on the P8, are they just not available yet?

- The car keeps losing the pairing to my iPhone, says "no phones paired" in the bluetooth menu, so I have to re-pair it.

- The Harmon/Kardon speakers seem a bit buzzy and rattly?

- Automatic heated steering wheel/seats, what temp do these come on? it's been pretty cold and they haven't come on.

- I would prefer more ways to set up the driving experience, I'm surprised there are no options for the driving experience beyond 'stiff steering' and one pedal driving.

- Selection of Apps is poor, is there a roadmap of what's coming? I would at least expect Waze, since that's a Google-owned company (I'm sure I read that Waze was included).

- I think a £60,000 / $85,000 car should have LED rear brake/turn lights. It's kinda crazy that it doesn't, when most Volvos do now, and the Polestar 2 (and upcoming Volvo C40) have Pixel LED headlights and OLED rear lights. C'mon, Volvo.

All in all, I absolutely love this car, there are just a couple of things I would have preferred to see, some bits that feel un-finished in terms of the user experience, and I'm surprised that some of the Polestar 2 innovations haven't made it across to the XC40 yet (some of the above, plus the 11.8" infotainment screen), considering the Volvo is the more expensive product...

Hello there and welcome.

A lot of your questions are already answered else where but I will zip through them.

VoC - not meant to work yet. Works for some not others, , ,you should of signed something saying you were okay with this when you got the car. It is coming just not today.

Driver displays do occasionally crash. If you are one of the unlucky ones that have a lot of crashes you might need to get a part replaced. Mine has crashed twice in a long time And I consider it stable.

Music tracks and stuff. . .software is still beta and not exactly perfect. . . Hopefully it will improve.

Sure drivers display is not customizable . . .considering they just went down from 3 to 2 . . .I imagine this is an area that is a good way from fully finished

Apple play/android auto - not due out yet . . .something you should of signed

It should stay paired with your phone. . .might want to talk to your dealer about that. My car is paired with 2 phones and I have had zero problems

My speakers are not rattly. . .find a piece of music that exemplifies this behavior, take it in and demonstrate to dealer, perhaps you have a faulty speaker or mounting of it

The steering wheel heat is controlled by you. On the info console you see a picture of seat warmer, touch that and you get the controls for the wheel and the seat. It will not turn on on its own.

More customizable would be nice. . .more stability across all P8s on what we have would be better

App selection is poor for now. . .this is a car, you do not want random Apps messing with your car, more will come over time I am sure but again not today

I thought our rear lights were LED . . .did not know they were not… we have different rear lights than other volvos and polsestars. . .odd will have to look at mine.

Focus on the things that are wrong that are meant to work, the rest is coming.. I for one would rather have the car as is as it grows than have an ice. . .

Good luck. Let us know how your speakers go and your display, those both sound like they need dealer time, the rest is just evolution waiting :)

Actually, if you go to Climate full-screen view, upper right has a 3-dot menu link. There's a few options for automatically turning on various heating elements, including the steering wheel.

It's too flippin' hot here to want to fiddle with those, and I'm more inclined to turn them on when I need them rather than some automatic setting. But... it's there.

Thanks for your thorough response! I'll be sure to get the speakers checked out, and weirdly my phone re-appeared on the bluetooth menu so again hopefully a niggle. I try not to take calls when I drive anyway, and the built-in Spotify app works fine.

Unfortunately I wasn't asked to sign anything, as I didn't get my car directly through Volvo, rather an independent Lease Company here in the UK (it's a business vehicle, which Volvo don't do in the UK, Volvo's own lease product is only for Retail).

Weirdly the reverse lights and the actual 'night time' lights are LED, but the brake lights and turn signals are regular bulbs. I have replaced my turn signal bulbs with LEDS and they work perfectly, look much better. But the brake lights are still halogen.

It looks like the new C40 addresses some of these things (certainly the Pixel LED headlights and full LED rear lights), so will be interesting to see how that car does!

VoC does actually work for me, but just has less functionality than it used to. Hopefully that comes back! :)

Thanks, yeah I did find the Auto setting, which is what prompted the question as to what the parameters are for 'auto heated wheel/seat'.

I live in the UK where our weather is frequently hot/warm one day, and freezing the next, so having that Auto setting is a god-send (if it works). I used to have it on a BMW 5 Series Touring and it was below about 10 degrees Celsius I think.

In my 2020 T5, the heated seats and steering wheel automatically come on below 40 degrees F, about 4 degrees Celsius. I have to turn them on manually in the spring and fall when it's too warm for them come on by themselves but cool enough that I want them on. I wish I could change that threshold to 50-55 degrees F.
Ooh!!! There is an auto for climate sweet. Will find that today. :)
