Received a notification today that my XC40 has been built (received the VIN). Scheduled delivery second week of April, must be one of the early ones to arrive in the States. Any US owners already took delivery?

That's awesome, I think you'll be one of the first US owners to take delivery. I know there is another user on here who was supposed to take delivery on the 19th of March in Belgium.
I just leased my XC-40 R Design Yesterday! First one in Richmond,VA!
Just leased a R-design in Athens, Georgia. Delivery mid to late June.
Update: delivery has been delayed from 2nd week of April to "sometime in May". Now we are in June and still no firm date... I did complete the insurance application for Care by Volvo and was accepted, but that was two weeks ago. This is disappointing, Volvo USA seems to have problems getting the cars/paperwork ready for delivery.
I know demand is quite high for this model, so its probably a matter of luck for who takes delivery first. I believe Volvo has seen something like 80,000 orders for the XC40.
I ordered mine in February, completed build in April, arrived to Port Hueneme, CA, on May 12th, still haven't taken delivery and it hasn't made it to the dealership. As far as I know, it's still at the port. It's only 168 miles from port to dealership, so it's just been a very frustrating delay caused by unknown reasons.

Please post on your progress. Since you have a VIN and its in the US what is the hold up? Must be really frustrating. I know subscriptions are a new way to 'buy' a car and there is a lot of demand for the XC40 but this is the kind of problem a lot of car companies would like to have.
Build Date?

Update, after my dealer called me two days ago to say that my car actually wasn't "completely" built, and that delivery would be delayed till end of July. Today as I pressed the dealership, I got a date of August 13th. At this point, I have very little confidence in the dates they are giving me. I call them on it and after a lot of discussion on the subject, I finally said, "Can you give me a date when I will take delivery of the new Rdesign?" Should be a relatively straight forward answer based on a quick query on the computer to corporate. Instead the dealers answer "We will know when it gets here". I guess they believe it when they see it....
Finally I have a delivery date!

Delivery scheduled for July 9... This after several missed deadlines by Volvo Car USA. First they projected delivery on the second week of April, then 'sometime in May', in May it was going to be 'in a few short weeks' and now June has also passed. One last obstacle was the credit check: I have a freeze on all my credit reports after being part of some of the recent data breaches of large insurers and retailers. As a result Volvo Car Finance could not obtain my credit report and they simply denied me instead of contacting me to unfreeze my report... After that was resolved my car was finally shipped from the port to the dealer, expected to arrive there later this week and delivery scheduled for Monday July 9th. I will be the first 'Care by Volvo' car to be delivered by this dealer.:grin

I appreciate your progress report. Hopefully you will receive your car soon and be happy with it. While Volvo corporate and dealers are primary sources of information it may be that other owners will have the most useful info.
Delivery!

So we took delivery on Monday July 9th of the XC40 Momentum under Care by Volvo, almost six months to the day after I placed the order. Car exceeds expectations, drives very nicely and many interesting features. Some initial observations:
- The XC40 was indeed the car for which I received the VIN in March. Car was built early in March, so almost four months ago... I understand it has been sitting at the port of Brunswick, GA ever since.
- Tire pressure was at 42 psi (cold), while recommended is 33 psi. This is apparently a common oversight by dealers, they do not check/adjust the tire pressure from what is applied for transportation (to avoid flat spots).
- Car was delivered with a full tank of gas, nice surprise! I have experienced differently with new cars from other dealers.
- Overall dealer experience was very positive. Very nice people and an almost seamless process. Car was clean and no dealer installed swirl marks :smile as far as I can determine. Only minor quibble so far was the tire pressure.
- Many things to program in the car. Done so far: Bluetooth Phone, Android Auto, Volvo On Call, HomeLink, Driver Profiles, Liftgate Limit, TPMS Calibration. Others to follow :grin.
- Some nice surprises: auto park, trip log with Volvo On Call (and ability to categorize each trip as personal or business), traffic sign recognition, car will be picked up and returned for service at no extra cost (and a loaner car for the duration of the service).
- Minor disappointment: carpet on driver side has some empty space underneath the foot rest and center part, this feels less solid...
More to follow...
