Conny Blomme, Senior Designer for Volvo Car Corporation shared his vision for the XC40 in a short clip uploaded by Volvo’s branch in Spain. Though a vague description to some, Blomme and his team tried to incorporate something they describe as “Scandinavian coolness” when it came to the premium compact SUV’s interior design.
Even from a young age, Blomme was influenced by the auto industry with family members employed in the sector. Design was all he wanted to do and his secret is to always stay true to your initial ideas, remembering that first sketch and in doing so, the original idea will always come through in the end. A process that has led him to the XC40’s final interior design.
Still exclusive, the SUV has been designed to give us a more youthful and sporty feeling with inspiration coming from a private jet. Developed around this theme from day one, you can see hints of a wing shape and fuselage in the center. Style takes precedence over utility and instead of developing a cabin around storage and practicality, Blomme’s team successfully created a design that offered storage.
Of course having an extremely well equipped entry-level Momentum trim does go a long way, with textile and vinyl interior upholstery.
