apple just announced ios16 and it’s CarPlay capability. It takes over the car completely (imagine AAOS that we have in our recharge but it will be apple iOS and CarPlay). This includes the digital cluster and all other screens.

Volvo is listed as one of the companies developing cars staring late next year. So it seems Volvo is really ditching AAOS

Sounds like a great plan however, we're not likely to see in on existing models; only the new ones after the rollout.

It’s impossible for current lines to support it.
It’s quite incredible. You can edit your cluster to your liking.
It takes Apple to get this done properly

Might this mean XC40 Recharge and Carplay (expected imminently!) will be shortlived unless you keep your iphone on iOS 15?

Wondering if it will run on top of the AAOS, so you could choose what you want.
But anyway, it will make Google speed up the improvements on AAOS overall.
Or if Volvo will drop AAOS, then we will probably see nothing new until CarPlay is available.

You still need your iPhone so this cannot be a replacement for AAOS. Most likely it'll run on top of whatever car operating system is running.

This is better long term than Apple building their own car. I think if they partner with car makers this could go well.

I think it’s a datapoint that we may finally be on track to get CarPlay with 2.2 around June 26.

I don’t see anything that suggests that this is anything more than a CarPlay over your native system like it currently exists-just with more functionality.

I assume so. Just like it is now with infotainment screens with CarPlay.
