How about a C40R?

The C40 is a really fun car. But what if there were an R version?
  • Grab the powertrain from the Polestar 2 BST (bumping power up to 476 HP)
  • Increase track by using slightly different hubs and then fitting slightly wider wheels and tires under small fender flares
  • Add lowering springs (about 10mm) and Öhlins 2-way adjustable dampers
  • Stiffen the roll bars and add strut tower stiffeners as needed to reduce chassis flex
  • Grab the seats from the S60R but cover them in a fabric more in line with the C40 ethos (maybe a bright color wool?)
  • Change the trim to a machined aluminum textured surface or a "light through" pattern unique to the R (carbon fiber is overdone - let's be different)
  • Enable a mode switch (paddles? twist knob?) in software for drive modes (econ / sport / drift / mud / snow / sand) or even better a slider to bias the power front to rear
  • Remove the top speed limiter (and then let's see what it will REALLY do in the 1/4 mile when it's unchained)
  • Engaging a mode changes the color scheme of the driver display
  • Finally, add some colors that aren't tame...no greys or earth tones...maybe a full on Blue/Yellow color scheme based on the Swedish flag?
Other ideas? Different approach? If anything goes, what would YOU want to see?

Brilliant idea. If included for the XC40 as well, I would buy that one immediately.
Regarding the extended power, it was communicated some time ago that the same Polestar 2 power option was planned to be available ota for Volvo as well. But, I haven't heard anything more. Let's keep our fingers crossed (y)(y)(y)

I just want different driving modes and adjustable/raising/lowering suspension.

Power is fine, top speed is fine; I'm not bringing a CUV to the dragstrip very often, and Volvo will never raise the top speed with their laser focus on safety. They leave that to Polestar.
I'm actually OK with the top speed limiter where it is too @morphroc if it's being limited by the tires. What I really want is more torque and more regen capability for a sportier one-0pedal-driving experience.

For instance, I did a recode on a BMW i3s today that resulted in it booting to "Sport Mode" all the time. It's like driving a different - and much better - hot hatch!
Heico Sportiv has lowering springs and some larger wheels for the C40/XC40 Recharge EVs...saw a pic on their FB page - looked pretty good! No performance upgrades (yet!)

Interestingly, we have a mate who has had a Polestar 2 for about 8 months, with the performance pack and performance (power) software upgrade. He just picked up a C40 Twin "ultimate" for his partner and he said he's surprised how well it drives and takes the curves compared to his Polestar 2. He was expecting the C40 to be more SUV-like and floaty maybe, but he said the C40 seems to take the corners almost as flat as his P2, and said the grip is amazing. Keep in mind we're (in Australia) getting the 20-inch Pirelli P-Zero performance tyres on our C40/XC40 twin motor cars, so they're pretty grippy!

It’s only a marketing decision keeping that upgrade off the table. Just in case they need another ‘upgrade’ in future MY releases

Updating the C40R dream based on this article...

So if Volvo's new in-house electrin motor provides 248 hp / 310 lb-ft then TWO of them should produce 496 HP / 620 lb-ft.

They've already said the motors will not be the same front and rear. It's 250 in the back and 150 in the front.

Dual-motor variants get a new front motor as well, an asynchronous unit that makes a lesser peak of 147 horsepower and is idled when the additional power or traction isn't necessary to boost efficiency

Yes, but I'm hoping for something AFTER that one...more spicy...

You literally just described a Polestar 2 with their performance pack. It's already on the market. How's it selling?
This is what it does in the 1/4:
1/4-Mile: 12.2 sec @ 116 mph

A truly sharp and compelling vehicle! The only complaint is that this is literally the only car I've ever heard of that required you to manually exit the vehicle, and remove trim pieces to adjust the "adjustable" dampers. Total rubbish for $70k. My Acura RDX and my EV6 GT, you press a button/turned a knob. Same for every other production non-"race car" out there, unless you want to talk about manual hub locking on old trucks, lol!

Volvo will never make a vehicle like this, because their goal is "Safety at all costs".

Volvo Cars, as a worldwide leader in safety, is sending a strong signal about the dangers of speeding and will limit the top speed on all its cars to 112 mph (180 kph) from 2020, beginning with model year 2021.

The company’s Vision 2020, which aims for no one to be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo by 2020, is one of the most ambitious safety visions in the automotive industry. But realizing that technology alone will not get it all the way to zero, Volvo Cars is now broadening its scope to include a focus on driver behavior.
