I am scheduled to take delivery tomorrow or more likely on Wednesday of this week. I am excited about the car but I am also getting more and more worried about the car after reading this forum for the last several weeks. What am I getting myself into? A great car? An expensive headache?
I have read opinions on the car such as: no car is perfect, all have issues etc. My Toyota NEVER had any issues whatsoever. It turned on and went and turned on again etc. This car is miles away from my Toyota as far as tech, but still. Cars should be able to perform the basics: turn on, go, charge (in this case) repeat.
So, like the title says - has anyone had nothing but smooth sailing?
I took delivery of my XC-40 Recharge ALL electric on October 9th. It worked great until October 27th. Two things happened. First, the OTA software update to version 1.7 did not fully install so online connectivity stopped. The dealership here in San Antonio did not have the current version of the software so I needed to reschedule a trip to have the update properly installed.
Secondly, and more serious, I experienced a problem as the same time after deliver of not being able to put the car in gear after two weeks. I got the car to the dealership after a difficult effort with Volvo Road Side Assistance to have it towed---it took three days and two separate tow companies. It took three days to access the problem with Volvo Tech Line to determine that the inverter was defective and needs to be replaced. This is the first defect of this sort I have heard about in my research so it is likely a small defect rate.
The car is a great ride and I have confidence that it will be fully repaired in the next week since the problems are related to defective parts at the factory install. I had a similar problem with my invertor on my solar array at my house and once it was replaced, no problems since.
With that said, you should know that you are buying a car that is still a prototype and experimental for Volvo and the auto industry. Volvo has a great reputation on their warranties and quantity so you should be fine despite the fact that you are taking delivery of a prototype.
I hope that helps
