Does it do anything when you kick your foot in and pull it back out, such as beep? If it beeps but doesn't open, you're either standing too close or don't have the key fob on you. You do have to stand back after kicking in under the bumper with your foot. And you kick in just to the left of the license/number plate. Don't flail your foot left and right. See if that helps.

 

No beep. Tried sweep, kick, arc under sensor, under v, in between, fast slow, held key close to bumper, varied distance to bumper. Dealership somehow got it to open with their kick - but after multiple tries. Maybe it just doesn't like me Going to go to dealership and try kick on another xc40.

 

The key secret to me is to kick under the first V and then one step back. Works every time.

 

Once again took the trip to visit service. Once again while there it worked. This time I actually did it. Same thing I had been doing for the past week but this time it worked. Felt stupid. Was told that the kick needed to be quick and between the "v" and "o". Already did that but this time it worked. Hopefully it will continue to function as advertised. Gnomes?

 

Nope, gnomes would get bashed in the hat. You need a large enough foot - my wife can’t do it most times while I can. Kick directly under the first V, in and out and stand back. Works all the time for me.

 

Exmugen, do you by chance have a tow-bar installed on your XC40?

This feature works like ****. Works maybe 30% of time and I have a 2019.

 

It's odd how variable this is. For some people (including me) who figured out how to do it "correctly" it works every time. For others they can never get it to work. Is it a hardware, software or technique issue? I guess we'll never know unless those of us who have the knack try it on cars that "don't work properly"....we need a bunch of cars and users to do a proper study!

 

I've resigned myself to believing it's another example of cheap wonky electronics and to using the key fob. You would think that after many years of manufacturing basically the same product it would work as advertised.
