Hi everyone.

Sensus - I have an XC40 R Design Pro D5 in the UK. When I purchased the car the main Icons (SatNav, Phone, Media etc) were colour Icons in the main Sensus display. They are now just black and white. I have seen various identical presentations on Youtube and wondered why the colour has disappeared.

Collision - My car alarms and shows a red vehicle on the screen and randomly brakes when there is no car in front! This is a great safety feature to have but working in opposite if I randomly brake when cars are following! I have read this elsewhere also.

I get close proximity warnings on the right hand side when there is nothing there or when I am close to something on the left!

Just wondering if these "glitches" are seen elsewhere :)

Highly impressed with the car though and now looking at mudflaps as they sides seem to pick up dirt very easily.

Haven't heard about the screen losing color before. Is it just those icons or other areas of the Sensus system as well? Proximity sensors have been known to be a bit touchy, especially during inclement weather. Have you confirmed your software is up to date?

If you haven't done it already i suggest contacting your dealer to open a case on it along with Volvo Corporate because if there's a pattern of these happening it'll help the rest of us.
Not everyone comes to forums to report issues, most owners suffer in silence at the mercy of their dealer.

I’ve had my car for going on 8 months, approaching 12k miles. Every so often the car will brake unnecessarily if I’m going through a curve at strange angle and there are oncoming and/or parked cars. Never while just driving straight. The only time I’ve experienced anything similar to what you’ve described w/ the proximity sensors is when the sensors have been dirty (in my case, frozen slush or road salt).

My car has braked unexpectantly once. I was driving around a corner and there was a car on the shoulder that I presume it thought was in my way. The proximity sensors go off when I turn sharply (at low speeds) regardless if there is an object there or not.

Regarding the icons, they change based on the dashboard scheme selected. I changed my dashboard do the Red performance version, this resulted in all the icons turning black and white (which I prefer anyway)

It turns out that this issue is more common throughout the industry than some think.
Even brands like Toyota who you'd think would have the most reliable and dependable system, also suffers from these issues.
At best what we can do is drive in situations that will put us at the least risk, driving in the left lane and aware at all times of what other drivers are doing.

There is plenty of fine tuning that still needs to be done with all these proximity sensors and driver aids. For the most part they do still help to make the roadways safer, even if sometimes they can be intrusive and overbearing. Future software updates will help to improve their accuracy and reliability.

Sometimes faulty sensors are placed from factory, but your dealer should easily be able to recognize if that's the case. If its just an intermittent problem, then you'll find similar results on any new vehicle with these kinds of proximity sensors.

Faulty emergency braking has happened to me at least 6 times. I just took it to the dealer to have checked and they don't believe me! They said "a piece of tape sometimes comes up and hits the camera causing this". But six times? I think not. This is a safety hazard. My car has hit the brakes like an emergency stop for no reason, no car in front, nothing. I'm worried that I'll get rear ended sometime. They need to address this problem.

Faulty emergency braking continues!!! Dealer is not surprised, but doesn't really believe me. It has happened 14 times! Getting dangerous. Love the car except for this problem, oh and the right front parking sensor goes off when on the freeway.

If your dealer is giving you the runaround then take it up with Volvo directly. Safety is a mainstay of all of Volvo, well at least in advertising anyway. They can not ignore it. If you feel that they are giving the cold shoulder tell them that you will notify the media such as KBB, edwards , etc

That's funny ... do you live in a country that drives on the left? England?

Does the car actually come to a stop or is it more like engine breaking with an alert of three beeps? I am getting engine breaking which just slows me down slightly and the alert on a weekly basis. Also my parking sensor goes off at red lights and in traffic all the time. I try to turn off the parking sensor every time I drive now. I too love the car except this is making me crazy.

I too have had this issue. It has not caused me any issues but it certainly freaked me out. Its happened maybe 15 times in 10k miles

I was driving my XC40 T4 on a country lane doing around 35 MPH when the car immediately did a hard brake and the seatbelt clinched around me. It scared the sh*t out of me! There were NO cars or objects on or near the road. I was driving Westbound with the morning sun directly behind me. It is a heavily tree-lined street and maybe the car saw all the tree shadows as objects? I lowered the sensitivity from "medium" to "low" and haven't experienced another "phantom braking" experience since. I set up an appointment with the dealer, hoping I can "disable" this faulty feature. I am especially concerned if this were to occur on a busy highway, I would have created a multiple car accident. Not sure I trust my computer-on-wheels at this point.
