I discovered today that the front left fog light comes on when the headlights come on. The right fog light comes on when I turn on the fog lights and they both work, but when I turn the fog lights off, the right one goes off and the left one stays on.

The left fog light only turns off when the headlights are off.

Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas as to which component is the likely culprit?

You may be confused about the active cornering light system on the XC40. When active with the headlights on the small fog lights will light either on the left or right depending on which direction the steering wheel is turned. This system operates independent of the fog light switch and will operate if the fog lights are switched off.

You are right. I didn't realize how little turning of the steering wheel it takes to activate the fog light. The wheels have to be nearly perfectly straight for both fog lights to be off.

I had the same question. One fog light would be on and the other off then the opposite would happen. Drove me crazy.
The fog lights double as the cornering lights - when you turn right the right one comes one while you corner and the same is true for the left one - it actually is a great freature.
