At least that’s what Alex on Autos suggested in his review of the new 2019 Volvo XC40. Designed to compete directly with the likes of the BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3, Infiniti QX30 and Range Rover Evoque, Volvo’s new subcompact crossover can certainly hold its own.
In terms of proportion, the XC40 was designed to sit more upright than its XC60 and XC90 siblings in an effort to maximize interior space even though its overall length has been shortened. What’s more, the 8.3 inches of ground clearance is among the best in its segment.
Alex does go on to mention the XC40’s engine option and specs aside from fuel economy, though at this point we’re quite well informed about the two 2.0L turbo engine offerings (248 hp/258 lb-ft and 187 hp/221 lb-ft) and 8-speed automatic transmission, thus we’ll move on to the interior.
The front seats get a full score of 10 thanks to its standard 4-way lumbar support, extendable thigh cushion and tilt/telescopic steering column. Rear passenger seats also scored a 10 out of 10 because it’s once of the biggest back seats in this segment. But what’s a crossover without ample cargo space and the XC40 has that in spades with 20.1 cu-ft of space.
There’s much to love about the new Volvo XC40 and it should definitely make its way onto your vehicle shopping list if you plan to look at the rivaling models as well.
