Hello,
i have a C40 Recharge and i inserted a Data Sim card in the slot located up near the SOS button but when i enable the Connectivity option it doesn't seem to work.

Any idea how i can use a SIM to provide internet ?

Cars that are sold in unsupported countries don't have the necessary software installed. There is nothing we can do about this until Volvo decides to roll out software support for the P-SIM.

Not sure where folks are getting the idea that the SIM slot is software supported. I have only read, here on this forum over the last two years, that the SIM slot in the 21-24 EVs is a vestigial remnant from earlier cars using the earlier internet comms. The SIM slot is not wired, according to the prevailing mythology, so software will not magically make it function.

so its a software issue it seems, i asked the local dealer they said expected later this year
my volvo dealer stated there is no wiring and just a remnant of the senses vehicles

Hello,

any news regarding the updated software support for the P-SIM?
nothing, although I expect users to pressure this further as the MY21 models of the xc40 recharge are nearing their 4 years of free data

Enable hotspot on your cell phone and connect the car to the phone via wifi in car. Wifi in car will reconnect to your phone when you use the car and provide the car Infotainment with Internet (playing apps and using Google Maps and Assistant).
it isn't that easy. It's slow and clunky. Not to mention hotspot drops every time a call comes in. And not all phones allow auto reconnections to save on their battery (some iPhones for example)

Folks, please read the official Volvo manual before assuming anything. Volvo on various support pages says that personal SIM (P-SIM) isn't currently supported. This doesn't imply that we have a hardware limitation but rather a software one.

Example page: Updating your car's software | Software updates | Volvo Support HR

Quote from the example page:
An internet connection provided by the car's built-in SIM card is required when downloading software updates. Downloading via personal SIM or Wi-Fi is currently not supported.
