I haven't driven my P8 since Saturday night - Im out of town for a week. I parked it at 57% and it remains at 57% tonight, 2 days later. Its been in the 30 - 60 degree range and will get a little colder this week, dipping into the 20's overnight. It's parked in a carport, so the outside temps are what it'll be exposed to.

It will not precondition the battery but will precondition the cabin without using the battery (assuming it connected to the wall unit).
Just for giggles, take the car out of the garage first time in the morning without warming it up and look at the consumption, you will be shocked.
I have noticed this - upwards of 140…

so charging to 90 would prevent this then? It would keep the battery pre conditioned? I guess setting the timer in the app is all about cabin comfort, not combined cabin comfort and a preconditioned battery, regardless plugged in or SOC?

No, leaving it plugged in with charge limit set to 90% will not do anything after car reaches 90%. You would still have to set timer or tell app to precondition about 30 minutes before you wanted car ready to drive.
I'm retired and don't have a clue when I will use my car next so I just leave it plugged in and set to 90% and then tell app 30 mins prior.
i was super unclear in my question, my bad.

if i set my charge limit to 70% but still have timers set to precondition before my departure - will this only condition the cabin for comfort?

if i set my charge limit to 90% and have the timers set to precondition before my departure - will this condition both the battery and the cabin?

I personally think if you charge to 70% and set timer for precondition, it only preheats cabin, not the battery. I think to precondition the battery it needs to be 90% and plugged in. I have done this several times and it's very noticeable that the car is much more efficient kwh/ 100 then if the car was cold.
got it, thanks

Sorry if you already covered this - but are you seeing the 57% charge level on the actual car dashboard? Or just looking at the mobile app? The app might just be showing you the charge level from "the last time it heard from your car".
I hope that the app is wise enough to know the current SOC, but I will find out. I am getting this from the app. When I pull it up it takes a minute to load, then everything appears to be communicating with the car. I can and have locked and unlocked the doors to check - which I verified happening on my Ring camera. So, in regards to the battery - we will see I suppose.

I think a way to force an update would be to issue an unlock and relock of the doors. But, I'd rather you not risk skewing your week long experiment.

When you get back, let us know what the dash says when you enter the car and then if it changes rapidly within the first minute of being on.
Too late, I unlocked/locked again just to make sure my app is communicating with the car - it is. Ring camera verified. 57% still showing.

Its important to me to know how it behaves as Ill be driving it to the Nashville airport (I live in AL) and leaving it for 5 days.

You can tell the app syncs with the car when you open it and the car initially shows neutral, then the car changes to its current state (locked with the red blinking light on the dash). Well, that's what I tell myself at least.
