I purchased a XC40 T4 just two months ago. Today when I stopped the car and was waiting in the left turn lane, the auto start/stop kicked in and shut down the engine completely. I had to restart the car from scratch (step on the brake with my foot and press the start button, shift the gear from P to D again) before I can move the car again. It took me about a minute to realize what happened and took the right steps to restart the car while my young daughter was sitting next to me--a pretty freaky experience. Does anyone know what is the problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, I had my seat belt on as I was driving normally under normal road conditions. nothing out of the ordinary.
this has happen to me once. was at a stoplight and started to go then died. freaked out as i was dead in the middle of the street and wouldn't start till i seen i was still in drive so i pushed the park button then pressed the start button then back in drive and drove off. has not happen again after that.

Thanks for sharing. I was recommended to bring the car back to the dealership, and they reset the battery and software system. They suspect it's a software glitch, and in a road test they observed no problems. I hope it's a one off thing and won't happen again, but who knows.
