Ordered my XC40 R-Design a month ago, no word from dealer as to when it will arrive... I’ve been dreaming about this car for a month! Can’t wait to get my hands on it! Glad to hear about the lucky ones already in possession of their XC40s! :smile

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the order! The R Design certainly seems to be the most popular specs on the XC40 and for good reason. Which color did you end up going with?
Hey Kalvin, thanks.. I ordered the Osmium Grey Metallic, I have a black Jeep Cherokee and got tired of the black, I live in NM so dust is an issue. I test-drove the Momentum in Osmium Grey and loved the color, on the R design the contrasting roof will make it look sharp.
I just spoke to the salesman where I bought mine and he said that they are way behind in production and that they are telling buyers six months

six months, OH NO!! (can't find the right emojis):surprise:crying:(
I second Yakers sentiment... I was told 2-3 months and when I asked my sales guy he just said “haven’t heard anything new”. That was 2 weeks ago, so I’ll ask him again. I can’t wait to get rid of my Jeep Cherokee, it’s out of the 3 years warranty and I know for a fact it’ll start with issues that will requiere dealership fix...

Not good! :crying I really want this car!
Ordered in February, still one month to go.
I think you may count on late this year December or early next year but not sooner.

In my country when you order one now you have to wait till march next year.
Was supposed to get mine mid may.. And delayed till mid September.
Moving Target

The possible delivery date, which was never firm, keeps moving. The original quote from the salesman in April was June/July, then a phone call to Volvo support indicated more like Oct/Sept, recently received an email that says first quarter 2019:surprise The ONLY thing that shows any progress is I now have an official (I assume) order number. Now when I get a VIN it will mean a real production schedule and the possibility of tracking and estimating a delivery date. Anyone with a VIN who can say how delivery flowed from the time of getting a VIN? Of course, if the ordered configuration aligns with one already in production there is a hope (dream?) of faster delivery.

I haven't got a VIN yet, on the web it says 4 weeks until delivery... I live in Sweden, but still, the car is built in the Netherlands. I can't really see how they can manage that.
Build Date?

So I order my Rdesign in mid March. I am told it will build on June 5th with delivery July 7th. I check with the dealer in June and he says it was built on June 4th....Good News. I was also given the VIN number.

TODAY I get a call from my dealer who says the Rdesign has not been finished!! They are apparently waiting for a part so obviously delivery will be delayed.

My question...with today's computer technology, how is it that Volvo apparently not able to tell dealers when something will be built, shipped, and delivered to the dealership with some accuracy. Doesn't make sense. I am getting ready to buy a car from an organization that is still learning production software...just wondering.

Thought the Volvo XC40 was built in Ghent, Belgium?

DEMAND IS TOO GREAT

Bingo, we have a winner!!!

Nice car, and I want one but I don't want to wait too long or overpay for it. I am fortunate that my wife's car is working for us for now but if a need really developes then I may need to go elsewhere. :crying
I got lucky and snagged my R-Design a week ago. It was a CBV vehicle that the salesperson had ordered for himself in late March, then decided not to complete the transaction. I saw it on the dealer website early in the morning, and drove it home later that day.

I've only seen one other on the streets - an Amazon Blue Momentum with contrasting white roof, that I spotted back in April.
Lexdrak, you shouldnt expect you car until 1st quarter 2019. The dealers in chicago are giving that estimate for anything ordered after mid to late april.

Thanks everybody for the comments on this... I don’t think I want to wait until late this year, I need to get rid of my Jeep before depreciation reaches a point it will be no longer even worth to trade. I love this XC40 but the wait is getting too long. Just emailed my sales guy, hopefully I can get a repense, no matter the outcome, but at least something from the dealer, not just “sorry, no words yet”.
