Hello,

my car recently started making a clicking/rubbing sound from the steering column. the noise only occurs at low speeds while turning the car. I read some forums about having to need a whole new steering column but that seems excessive. When I adjust the steering wheel I can here a similar noise. A couple of days ago I had to make a sudden stop and suto steering engaged. Would that be the reason the new noise started? Any other ideas?

I’ve read the technical service bulletins about steering wheel noise for the XC90 but that did not resolve the issue. A video of the noise is uploaded at
i know this ia a. Xc40 forum but hoping that things might be similar enough to find some help heee.

Thanks for the help!

Oi
Any news about this noise? I have a new C40 and have this noise... They said in the dealer, that it could be a strip connecting the steering wheel contacts to the car. I test two cars, the 1sr test drive car is the same as mine, and the 2nd don't have the noise. Could you help me?

Hi
In the dealer said that's the airbag tape.
They put it back in place, let's see if this is it. In another topic they said there was a lack of oil/grease in that area of the steering wheel, someone temporarily solved it with silicone oil, others say that the problem is the steering box and just changing it.

Hey did you get any news on what was causing this? I have the same issue??
Hi
No news, the same noise....wait news of the dealer. The noise isn't airbag tape....o_O
Ok my dealership found the issue to this exact noise it's a faulty clock spring. Hope this helps. they are replacing it.

This was mine before the fix.

Do you have the part number or more description of the piece that the dealer change?
Regards

Hi, they did not provide anything as it was just a warranty fix however the car only has one clock spring and that's what they replaced, in the steering column. The steering is perfect now. I don't think you would need to provide them with a part number or anything like that, my dealer found it pretty easily.
Oi, eles não forneceram nada, pois era apenas um conserto de garantia, porém o carro só tem uma mola de relógio e foi ela que eles substituíram, na coluna de direção. A direção está perfeita agora.

Ok regards and thanks for help
You might find a little more assistance on Swede Speed since they arent model specific and there will be more xc60 drivers there.
