Touch up paint: Volvo paint pens vs paint+clear coat bottle+brush

I've noticed a couple very small chips on the front bumper and I'm wondering how I should go about repairing. It looks like Volvo sells a paint pen (Volvo XC40 Touch up Pen. Paint. 2x9 ml. (Colour code: 733). TOUCH-UP PEN - 32293177 - Genuine Volvo Part) while some 3rd party / OEM sites sell the bottled paint in a 2 step kit (Volvo Touch Up Paint - Genuine Volvo 32293177 | Volvo Sage Green Metallic (733) Touch Up Paint ).

I've never really had much luck in using paint pens successfully and I'm leaning towards the FCPeuro "bottle and brush." Has anyone had any experiences with any touch-up products? I've used Dr. Color Chip in the past and really liked that product.

I think you'll find that both those things you posted links to are identical. Volvo calls it a "pen" but you can see in the description it says "2x 9 ml" as you get 2 small bottles - one with colour and one with clear. I used the Fusion Red from Volvo (bought from FCP Euro) and it works OK...also had the Volvo one for our C30.

I've had my Volvo XC40 for seven months, and I need to repair two small chips down to metal and a 1" scratch. Dr. Colorchip (recommended above) says this about my color (and only my color--707).

"Your vehicle has a tri-coat / 3-stage color, meaning it was painted with a base coat, pearl coat and a tinted clear coat. Our paint is a single stage formula and there is not a single stage formula that matches exactly. However, the paint your receive should allow for a close color match and yield far better results than using regular touch-up paint. Please check the box to acknowledge this."

I can order the Volvo paint and topcoat instead, of course. Pretty unhappy about needing to repair so soon; it did not seem to take much to make these chips. One was under my watch. Not sure how good a job I'll do, but they are small, and I know I want to cover these asap to prevent rust. Wondering if there are any tools or instructions in the Dr. Colorchip kit that make it better. If so, I want to access these and use the Volvo paint, I suppose. Thanks for any suggestions.
